What's the best overdrive/distortion pedal for non- master volume blackface and silverface amps?
I love the Fulltone OCD, but the latest version 1.7 stinks big time-noisey, loud and has lost the creamy overdrive. The v 1.4 is the best. Has anyone noticed they're (v 1.4) shoting up in price? What are some other favorites?

With my Super Reverb...I use a Digitech Eric Clapton pedal. Great tones and quiet 8)

Quiet is good. I've never tried a Tube screamer, but that's kinda where I'm leaning. How do the re-issues compare to the original-anywhere close?

Cmatmods signadrive !
Best bang for your buck out there !
Super quiet, mini toggle gives you three choices, built like a tank !
and you can talk to the guy who builds them personally !
Like 140 bucks shipped.
I do have a TS on my board also, i only use it with the gain on 1 and run it with the Signa drive.
I can't tell you how it works however the S/D opens up the sound of the T/S and removes any muddiness.

I made a TS 808 clone a while ago with some hopped up germanium diodes, and man does it ever get my bassman cookin. Without sending it into orbit I can dial in a nice hot boost - exactly what I need.

I like my OCD (not sure what version it is or how to tell).

IMO, for the money, it's hard to beat the Boss SD-1. Boss blues driver isn't to shabby either.

If, or shall I say when, I get another one I will either get a tube screamer or either the Fulltone Fulldrive or GT-500.

so many pedals, so many opinions.

I have a Keeley-modded TS9 that I like on my Princeton Reverb, not on my 6L6 amps.

Really like the Timmy, but it's a lot more transparent, but sounds great.

For crunch, I still use an old Barber Direct Drive that works great for me.

Lots to try; only way to know is through your amp with your guitar and pedals.

The Fulltone 1.4 works great with the '65 Bandmaster.
It truly is "the pedal for guys who don't use pedals"!
The best response I think I get is with Filtertrons & Dynasonics
but also sounds great with Fender SCoils with slight tone adjust.

Listen around 1 minute 54 seconds to this clip
54 CS pickups route 66 comp only and the Signa drive kicked in at the above time.
Clark Piedmont (59 Bassman clone) amp
The gain is at its lowest setting, the tone at 11:oo and the loudness full up
Pushes tweeds and blackface fenders that are just about to break up and takes them into a sweet OD Sound, keep in mind the route 66 comp is pushing the signal also.

I've had great luck with these OD's...
Analogman TS9. Modded to be a TS808.. Sounds very good. Doesn't cut off the bass quite like most TS pedals and it isn't harsh.

Catalinbread DLS Mk 3. If you like the Marshall tones, great pedal with a clean Fender amp. I use it in Super Bass mode but the Super Lead mode is great too. Has TMB tone controls so it's easy to shape your tone. If you have had bad luck using fuzzes with a clean Fender amp, the pedal in SB mode with a fuzz in front sounds fantastic.

Catalinbread SFT - tons of fat clean boost available and a very nice gain range. From just a bit of bite/ crunch, to cranked Ampeg Mick Taylor tones. Has a baxandall EQ with a wide range for tone shaping.Great pedal for goosing an amp on the verge of breakup. This is the most versatile OD I have used, period.

There are so many pedals out there, I suggest you buy from a vendor with a great return policy in case you aren't in love with what you get. Pro Guitar Shop is great to deal with btw.

You have to take the back off. Under the battery is the date made and version. 1.7 is the latest and the worst IMO. I have a v 1.4 and want another. Mike Fuller used germanium diodes. Since they are not made anymore, he revamped the circuit-not the same creamy distortion.
