Hello fellow fender forum folk. I am new to these forums so I thought I would send a hello to you all. Long time fender player, and admirer of their guitars and amps.

I recently purchased a 76 Pro Reverb in near mint, so now after owning my 73-74 Super Reverb since 1993 and having gigged with it for years, I can finally restore it. I know the usual dangers working on amps, and have seen that my caps are original brown wax paper ones. I guess this is where I will start.

I see alot of helpful and knowledgeable people posting here, and I am sure I will be availing of some of that great resource.

Cheers everyone.

Welcome!

Electrolytic caps is a good place to start. For vinatge units with OEM caps, I usually replace ALL 'lytics. Including those in the power supply, bias supply, and bypass caps. Then, you'll knwo when the all the 'lytics were replaced.

Visual check of the rest of the amp circuit is a good place to start. Any components that look like they been cooked should be measured. Check for leaky coupling caps (check DC voltage on the anode side of the caps --- requires amp to be on or "hot," so be very careful.

If you have access to a tube tester, you can check the strength of the gain stage & PI tubes. Check the bias on the 6L6GCs.

Photos of the circuit will help a lot, for those here on the board.

Hope to hear more from you. These are both very worthy amps to properly maintain.

:D

Thanks for the response BMW. I will be back with pictures and some questions I am sure. I have to purchase a digital multimeter, and a bunch of bits and pieces. When I have all of that, the project will begin.

Thanks Again
