I have no real complaints about the Blues Junior. It serves me well. But I've got GAS, a little money and a Silverface Champ which I love.

I know. I know. The Princeton costs twice as much as the BJ.

But If I go for it, will I miss the 12" (stock) speaker of the Junior? Will the Princeton be loud enough to hang with our drummer? The BJ is plenty loud for rehearsal and the small clubs we play. It stays clean at gig volume.

IMHO, a lot of overlap with the Champ, BJ, and a Princeton. Thought about a Deluxe Reverb re-issue?

Silverface Princeton is a better amp than Blues Junior and keep is value if you change your mind.

Not the Blues Junior.

You can alway use external speakers with either or any of the amps.

My son runs our drip-edge Princeton no-verb through a 2 x 12 cab. Drivers will certainly change the sonic chain in any amp.

The only difference I see in the Blue Jr and the Princetons would be the on-board Tremolo - that is if you were to get a Princeton Reverb. And of course the tube array (EL84's vs. 6V6's) You'd have to ask Beemer about what the tubes will do to the tone of each amp. He's the resident tube guru. That's knowledge outside of my wheelhouse.

That is the less important in difference .

The real difference , SF Princeton is point to point and have better electronics components than Blues Junior .SF Princeton is very tough and very well built amp. Not BJ . SF princeton is cheap to fix if you need . BJ probably not .

Blues Junior do not have point to point , it have a printed circuit board , less tough.
BJ loose value , not SF Princeton

SF Princeton have more than 30 years old . Blues junior won't last half time without putting money on .

That goes without saying. And is the #1 reason most us here have vintage amps and not modern amps. :D Its certainly fair to warn the OP that when the BJ's PCB does bad, the amp will most likely be headed for the landfill. Or maybe it can become an external speaker cab or a fish tank.

IMHO I think the OP is talking about tonal qualities of the BJ verse a vintage Princeton. So discussions of speakers, tubes, on-board effects will help drive an informed decision.

Maybe it's me, but why make it an "or" question? Save up and keep the Blues Jr. and when you can get the Princeton Reverb. I really like the sound combination of Fender cleans with a EL 84 amp through an ABY switch...

That might be the ticket. But I don't think the tiny dives we play would accomodate two guitar amps! However it would be nice to have both. Maybe the Princeton as my main amp and the BJ as a backup. Will the Princeton keep up with a moderately loud drummer and stay pretty clean?

I'm also thinking that the PR would be a good investment in that I'd rather have my money in a fun amp than won't lose value (and might even increase) than in the stupid bank at .25% interest!

Depends on the stage volume you need.

Without a mic and PA support, a Princeton Reverb on its own will have a tough time keeping up with drums and any size bass amp; I've found with mine that with a 1x12 extension cab (or a 2x10) that it does much better in that regard. With both amps, you'd definitely have enough gas for the gig, but also you could do things like:
Princeton - verse amp
Blues Jr - Chorus amp
Both - solos

All it takes is buying an ABY box and you'll never want to go back. But in space challenged considerations, a closed back extension cab is your friend.

Nedorama makes a great point. Keep the Blues Jr. as part of your "collection". Each amp has its own voice and if you like your Blues Jr, why get rid of it. Just add the Princeton (or Deluxe Reverb) to you "collection".
