I'm getting a fender 59 Vintage strat at the end of the month. My local music shop only have a few fender amps, the guy in store loves the hot rod deluxe iii, but I don't want to buy it and regret not getting a more vintage fender amp such as the deluxe reverb, is there much difference?

Night and day. I'd take the Deluxe Reverb any day of the week. I had a Hrdlx and it soulless and soul sucking at the same time.

Thanks, I've been listening to some videos and it seems that the DR really gives that vintage strat tone. Can I get much drive on the DR though?

Like all the blackface amps (vintage or re-issue) you'll need a pedal or two in front to heat things up. For vintage blues and rock, many players like the Fulltone OCD. For a heavier vibe, try an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer or the Digitech Bad Monkey.

Did you try using Digitech Bad Monkey and Fulltone OCD at the same time?

I used a Boss SD-1 modded by aNaLoG.MaN (symmetrical clipping) w/the DRRI.
With a Seymour Duncan '59 in the bridge position I had a killer tone for leads.
I had the best of both worlds...
Wish I still had the DRRI-
