Post subject: Help identifying brownface deluxe amp

Recently came across a brownface deluxe amp and I am trying to tell what year it is read they were made between 1961-1963. The label inside says model 6g3 with a hand written "a" and next to that says production with a hand written "66" any info would be great thanks

Looks at the tube chart. Should have a stamped two letter code. See link (and not Zelda --- :lol: )

Yes same as in the pic, its a 6g3 but next to that is a hand written "A" ??

If you have a photo of the chassis -- may help. I belive that brownface Deluxes did not have an adjustable bias pot. Such as the blackfaces. This would help to determine if the amp was back dated.

You may find a date ink-stamped inside the chassis which will indicate the year and the week within that year when the amp was made. Failing that, it will be necessary to rely on the EIA codes stamped on the pots and trannies that will approximate the amp's vintage.

IIRC, the "A" revision appeared in the spring of '63, with the most significant alteration from the basic 6G3 circuit being a value change to a cathode resistor in the phase-inverter stage.

That's because it uses a bias modulation tremolo system.

Still can't find an "A" schematic, but I wonder if the change is the same as the AB763 where they changed the tail and feedback resistors as well as the cathode resistor of the PI.
