Hi guys/gals

Can anyone tell me if Fender has been orientating and mounting the Accutronics Reverb Units the same since the dawn of their existance. The reason for my asking is that Accutronics claim that the least desirable way for these units to be mounted is with the spring opening facing down. Now this is exactly the way my TYPE4 Long Spring Reverb Unit is mounted in my SSTwin, and I am certain this is the way Fender has always done it. So if it works for Fender then surely it cannot be the least desirable way to mount?

Fender mounts their tanks according to the physical layout of the cab and chassis. Traditionally they've usually been at the bottom of the enclosure, laying flat. However the introduction of the Dual Showman Reverb and Bandmaster Reverb in 1968 forced FMI to take a different tack since these heads required spring-loaded thumbscrews located inside the amp at the bottom in order to lock the head to the speaker cab. The novel solution was a re-engineered tank designed by Gibbs to mount to the inside of the valence panel, oriented lengthwise on its side. Likewise in later years, Fender stood the tanks on their end to fit inside some of the smaller solid-state combos imported from Japan and Taiwan.

Thanks Arjay

Love the history, so Accutronics are really just giving a recomendation based on their mechanical design to yield the best performance from their tanks, and not a "DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME" warning. What I have found on my Reverb Tank is that in the FENDER factory orientation, the one springs ferrite beed on the input transformer side of the REVERB TANK is sitting really close to the Transformer metal core due to gravity and soldering position, and ideally this should be dead centre like the others. I am wondering if this has anything to do with the REVERB feedback I am experiencing like so many other REVERB tank owners. I will try re-orientate it to see if that solves the "HOWLING FEEDBACK".
