I couldn't say about three or four hundred bucks for a Princeton but I've got a '65 Princeton Reverb that I paid $625 for. It needed about $200 worth of parts and a speaker plus a good overall cleaning.

Now it's a two thousand dollar amp.

I send mine to a couple of gals in Tucson, up near the Catalina Mountains. They've done simply great work for my CTS requirements (T2Stratman has one in his '64 Princeton). Have you tried Orange County Speaker Service?

Well, I'm willing to send them to a couple of nice gals in Tucson --- if they do a "special" job. Never tried OC Speakers. Guy I did send my to, retired. Then died. :(

Funny, a guy had one up for sale on my local Kijiji just last month. It was around a 1969 PR but with non-working reverb. He was asking over $900 for it and I'm pretty sure he got what he was asking because the listing disappeared within a few weeks.

I'd sure like to know where these $300-$400 Princetons are.

Or he took it down without selling it or negotiated a lower price. Unfortunately there's no way to tell.

There are still deals out there it be found. And they come from the most unlikely sources. I picked up a 1964 Gibson Discover Tremolo (GA-8T) last summer for $50. (Somewhere between a Princeton and a Deluxe as far as speaker size and wattage) It was in rough shape, covered in dirt, and was found in the basement of an old building that I was helping a client renovate. A little elbow grease to clean the cab. $75 to my amp tech to replace the 2 prong plug, change a couple of caps, and a new cord for the footswitch and it was off to the races. Its a player - nothing more. But its a fun amp to play. Crystal clear highs. Takes pedals well. And I think the tremolo is the best of any of my amps. My gut says I could probably get $200 to $250 out of it. (It is a Gibson  ) The tubes are vintage and the 15" CTS speaker is original. I'd post a photo but I'd hate to have anyone think any less of me for owning a Gibby amp.
