If you have a Variac, you might wish to ramp those new electrolytics up slowly to give them the opportunity to properly form.

Arnold, one tiny tip on ramping up new caps. If your SR uses a 5U4GB (or any other direct-heated tube or solid-state rectifier) --- you are cool to start at, say 60 VAC and and ramp up in 20 VAC increments each 15-30 minutes -- until you hit 120 VAC. Have your DVM hooked to a B+ point to be sure that the VDC is appropropriate or in relative range with the input outlet VAC. This helps find bad solder points and/or shorts to ground.

If the amp uses a GZ34/5AR4 (indirect heated rectifier) --- you will need to replace it with a direct heated one. 5U4GBs work fine for these apps. Pull all power tubes while ramping up the caps. Zero volume, no guitar plugged-in. Speaker(s) connected.

I ramp up ALL replaced 'lytic caps. As you never know how long they've been sitting on a shelf --- losing "form." This procedure seems to give the best life to any 'lytic. Whether ones in a dormant amp. Or brand new caps.

Good luck! Happy tones!

5U4GB is what is inthere now. Thanks for the procedure Steve...every bit of knowledge gained makes things so much more stress free.
