Came across this ad on CL
sunn speaker tower and headset plus a kustom headset - $350 (dade city)
I've got an old sunn speaker tower and the headset with the lifetime warranty to go with it I'm asking 350 for also have a kustom headset ill let go for 100 sell it all for 400 will even throw in a fender super reverb for free only cause the transistors are bad on it.

Of course I had to call right away and see what he would take for the SR. Yeah I jumped all over it. I figured he had now idea what he had or what might be wrong with it. Apparently was his grandfathers who recently passed away, and it had been in storage for who knows how long. Well it does work, but needs a lot of TLC, caps, and normal maintenance, but it's all original iron, and it hasn't been messed with under the hood.

Been cleaning and scrubbing, but overall I think the layers of gunk and dust protected it. Next new caps, and glass. Baffle crumbled apart when I took it out to clean cloth, but no biggie. I'll post as I make progress.

None of that speaker wiring is original -- best to isolate each of the speakers and check them for the correct 8-ohm impedance. Then replace the entire mess with a proper-built repro harness.

Indeed Arjay. I was looking at Tony's pics on his thread and noticed how clean the wiring is, and put that on my list. I was wondering, as I'm still a bit green on vintage what that silver disc is that attaches to the middle between the speakers. Is it just a tie down point, or is there actual connections to the wiring there?

A.L....Yeah the disc has wiring connections on the back side. If you order one for your SFSR it should come with all that connected so you just have to solder the speaker connections. Like this...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SPEAKER-WIRE-HA ... 46094ffa76

Or better yet, this is for another amp, but it shows what goes on with the back side...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SPEAKER-WIRE-HA ... 45f612c715

And of course WELCOME to the SUPER REVERB CLUB!!!! After a thorough cleaning and that tech check up it should be a fine example of the breed. The two bottom speakers are not original either, but at least they are alnico, they look to be later CTS alnicos. What's the EIA speaker code on them? Couldn't tell from the pics.

When you get it cleaned and back together post some pics of it!

Thanks for the link T. I ran in the 3 prong ac power already, and will be ordering new filter caps hopefully next week. The only code I found onthose bottom speakers is on the cone,
WHF5339. Arjay said maybe Rola speakers, but the top 2 are original CTS alnico. I can't believe the cones weren't disintegrated with how long this amp was left to rot, no tears, plenty of flex, and not at all brittle. Cleanup has gone well, and the mildew smell isn't overpowering anymore, and yes I will post pics as I go. Great looking Supers you got there to my friend.

Arnold...glad it is coming along, and yeah could be rola speakers too. Your amp looks like it was sitting next to my second Bantam! The mold was pretty easy to clean up, this amp looks like it will be a nice project and easy enough to get going.

Wait until you crank the reverb on these amps, everything from breathiness to full on Dick Dale Drip! You'll love it!

Enjoy that puppy.

Cleaned up pretty well, waiting for the caps to come. Debating on ordering a drop in baffle with new cloth, or breaking out the jigsaw and making a new one and using the old cloth, which cleaned up pretty well. Had a pretty busy week, and looking like it will continue through Easter, but that kind of busy pays for these joys we call Fender. I'll post a few pics of my progress so far, just kind of in a limbo state until new caps come in. found a set of 2 CTS replacements for the 2 replaced speakers, just haven't jumped yet...got burned a few times a while back on the "bay, not sure I want to revisit that.

I prefer to buy speakers listed as blown or "in need of re-cone" so there are no surprises or disappointments when they arrive. Once I have them re-conditioned, I know they're good.

O.K. just waiting for the new caps to arrive, but she cleaned up rather well. I will be replacing the cloth at a later time, cleaned up, but the holes bug me. made a new wiring harness until I purchase a proper replacement. even removed the surface rust from the pat. pending tilts! I think I got the better end of this deal!

just plugged her in, a bit of a low hum, normal input side volume is quite a bit lower than the vibrato side, but for an amp that sat for who knows how long, in conditions that I'm sure were less than ideal I'm just happy she fires up and plays, and has quite a nice tone. 1 step at a time, but it's coming along.

Wow, cleaned up pretty nicely. The legs look like new! The upper back panel is on upside down though.

You are going to love it once the filter caps get done, these have great tone and "Super" reverb!
