knotanother1,

Definitely keep the bias pot. You'll need it when you put some real tubes in there.

Just kidding shimmilou!

I was thinking the same thing. Get some real tubes

Pretty clean under the hood. The filter-cap can looks original and you should seriously consider replacing it as a prophylactic measure. Adding a bias pot is a pretty common mod to many of the silverface editions -- mercifully, no holes were drilled to support the installation (thus it's reversible if you choose).

The grill cloth has been replaced, and badly I might add (it's wrong-side out). A Saturday afternoon with a stapler and a six-pack will straighten that out.

What's the speaker look like and how does it sound?

Arjay

While I took off the grill and low and behold an extreme sh@#$ job was done so I made a new grill holder cause the original was broke but the big question where can I get some period correct grill clothe for a 76 :?: :? any help would be great. 8)

There are a couple of Ebay vendors who sell replacement repro baffles for late silverface Fender amps, complete with grill cloth and the velcro strips installed. I think they run around seventy-five or eighty bucks for a Princeton.

Yea I check those sites but they do not offer the period correct grill clothe so I made a new baffle and wanted to see if anyone knew where to find the 76 period correct with the orange strip. Here is a picture of the baffle I made. Also installed proper plastic valcroImage

Knot, the first half of V2 (12AX7 in the schematic). The other half is used as the pahse inverter (in a cathodyne or concertina arrangement).

Scroll down the schematic for the layout.

Good luck. Sounds like a bad tube.

That's an awfully large logo shelf, especially for a tailless logo -- did you trace your plans from the original grill frame?

Repro orange-stripe cloth is not available from anybody AFAIK and in any case it represents some of the worst memories most enthusiasts hold about the CBS era in general. You might find some usable pieces on Ebay, harvested by folks who've cosmetically blackfaced a mid-70's amp. Such recycled scraps are usually quite expensive though.

Very reasonable question. I'd say something about plate voltages, but I might screw it up. Still learning. Better to be thought a fool than remove all doubt.

If the amp has a tremolo issue, it may be coincident with a bias-supply problem as these two functions are "joined at the hip". If a new tube in the V2 position fails to correct the tremolo's symptoms then it may be time to dig a little deeper into the chassis to determine the fundamental cause.
