I play hard rock and heavy metal and I want to replace the speakers(2-12"Yamaha)in my '76 Fender Silverface Twin Reverb tube amp does anyone have any sugesstions?
I have played through several different amps at my local music stores and I like the Celestion Vintage 30's and the Celestion G12T 75's and I was thinking about getting one of each would that be wise.
My gear is:
Jackson Dinky Reverse EMG 81(Bridge)EMG 85(Neck)
Jackson Pro DK2MHT Seymour Duncan JB(Bridge) Seymour Duncan 59(Neck)
1976 Fender Silverface Twin Reverb AMP
Digitech HardWire TL-2 pedal.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

For modern rock tones, the Celestions will be fine (not the greenbacks though -- they're only a 30-watt driver).

If you favor a more vintage vibe (ie: classic rock) you might consider some Webers -- 12A150's or 12F150's.

If you enjoy a really punchy speaker and have deep pockets, go for a pair of JBL D120F's or K120's.

For some, they are an acquired taste......

But nothing in the world sounds quite like them.

Steve,

I run my bandmasters through a 212 cab loaded with one v30 and one rola g12 80. I have to say that it sounds pretty good. I've tried other speaker combinations such as oxford and v30, eminence and v30, dual oxfords, etc. but I keep coming back to this combo. I'm able to cover a wide variety of music with this configuration.

I think for the hard rock/metal sound you can't go wrong with at least one v30.

Peace.

thanks for your input.
I really like the v30's and the g12's together and your right about them being versatile.
I just do not know if they will sound good in my amp.
I guess the only way i will find out is to take the plundge.
I had a buddy tell me about some JBL'S and Jensens does anybody know anything about these speakers?

Steve,

At one point in time i too had a twin reverb reissue. i used to run it with the same speaker configuration i mentioned. i preferred that to the eminence or jensen speakers that came with it. For hard rock/metal i dont think you will be dissapointed. Once broken in those v30s sound pretty dam good.

Good luck.

Vintage 30's. Check out http://wgs4.com/content/vet30 They are V30 clones. It's all subjective.

Periodically, but usually only at outdoor venues.
