Hi, I have searched high and low, here and elsewhere, but I still am not sure so hopefully you good people can help me out.
I have a 1983 Rivera-era Concert 1x12, 8 ohms. There is an additional speaker jack besides the internal speaker jack. When the extension jack is used with the internal speaker,it switches to 4 ohms.
I want to run the amp into a 4x12 cab and disconnect the internal speaker. The 412 has a stereo jack plate that allows for 4 ohm mono, 16 ohm mono, and 8 ohms stereo. http://dbinstrumentamp.com/drupal/conte ... jack-plate.
It seems to me I should be able to use both jacks on the amp to the two 8 ohm inputs (L & R) on the cab but I'm not sure. If I can't, which is better/safer, 4 ohms or 16?
Also is it possible to "trick" the amp into thinking it wants a 4 ohm load by putting a dummy plug in the main speaker jack and then connecting to 4 ohms mono?
Thanks in advance,
Mick

I would go the "dummy plug" route and use the cab in the 4-ohm mono mode, connected to the extension speaker jack.

Thanks for the reply. "Dummy plug" was the best I could come up with lol. So can I put an ordinary patch cable in the main speaker jack or does it need to be a speaker cable?

Ok, a rudimentary google search of "dummy plug" has answered my question. I should use a 1/4" adapter, no wires, as a dummy plug...right? Please forgive my ignorance and thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Correct.

You have chosen wisely, weed-hoppah.

One of our forum's "elder statesmen" T2Stratman has a 1x12 Concert like yours -- I 'spect he'll be around presently to offer some nuggets of wisdom as well.

Best of luck, HTH

Cool, thanks a lot. I'm moving this amp from the basement to the rehearsal space, looking to utilize it's awesome volume in a band setting (hard/punk rock). Any tips or tricks to help me out toward that end would be most appreciated, especially regarding the dirty channel.

Did someone mention my name? Actually I have a 2x10 Concert from 84...But the fact that Arjay knows my collection as well as he does, speaks volumes about just how good his memory really is. Not sure I could name each amp and speaker configuration he has...although he has quite a few more to keep track of!

As Arjay has suggested is really the way to go.

I have used my Concert with my 66 Bassman cab on occasion and it sounds great using 2x10 and 2x12 together. It gets nice tight lows with the 10's and bigger mids with 12's so I get a nice mix that way. But since you have a 1x12, going with just the external cab makes perfect sense. Enjoy.

Also, not sure if you know this, but if you want an extra gain stage, just use the adjustable effects loop by using a short straight cable. Just plug into the input and the other end into the output and you'll get that extra gain stage, just use the send and return knobs to adjust the amount of gain desired.

HTH

I recently learned of the extra gain to be had via the fx loop, just need to experiment with send and return levels.
Thanks again Arjay and T2. You have helped me a lot.

I'm betting that Concert Amp will sound positively monstrous through that 4 x 12 cab!

Rawk on!
