Yo guys!

So I bought this "Fender" amp on CL a few years ago for $150 just because it looked interesting and came with a project guitar.

Since then, I've been searching all over for more info, and have now concluded that it's a knockoff most likely made in the Philippines. (kind of like this: http://www.harmonycentral.com/t5/Electr ... p/32563079)

This, however, is definitely a tube amp, with 2 6L6s, 3 12AX7s, and another single tube I can't identify.

It also has a 110-220 voltage switch, reverb, and a "vibrator." The speaker pulses so hard when it's turned up :D

Anyway, thought you guys might be interested in a sound sample since these little knockoffs are apparently rare. I couldn't really dig into it because it's late where I am.

Honestly, for a $150 fake, the tone is not bad! Definitely a lot of noise/crackling, but I chalk that up to age.

Anybody have any more info on these?

So now we know where all those SS amps Fender built went...to the Phillipines to be turned into knockoffs!

All kidding aside, I don't believe Fender authorized any of these products...but I have seen one of these before here on the forum...Don't remember anyone knowing about them then either.

It was very common for US products to be copied (usually very badly, but every once in a while quite well) and sold to the large population of G.I.'s stationed there in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

+1

These amps were manufactured in the P.I. during the late '60s and early '70s by a company known as "Gabby Industries". The circuits were loosely based on Fender designs, with some Teisco and Guyatone influence tossed in for "flavor". They pop up on Ebay periodically.

Ha sweet! Thanks for the replies. It is a funny little amp. I wonder when it made it over to the states.
