Thanks for the heads up on the tubes T2!

Here are some comments on the subject of switching from 2 prong to 3 prong from users at TheGearPage.net:

A Gear Page Forum User wrote:
Make a little loop with your green ground wire so its the longest.

A Gear Page Forum User wrote:
An 18 gauge cord will work fine and be easier to seat.

A Gear Page Forum User wrote:
I'd suggest find an even LONGER cord. 8 feet seems like alot, but you'll consume at least a foot of it doing the internal wiring. Getting something 12-15 feet, while it may seem like overkill, should save you from hunting for an extension cord at every gig.

A Gear Page Forum User wrote:
By the way, this tool makes it a heluva lot easier to remove and replace strain reliefs.

A Gear Page Forum User wrote:
If the strain relief that comes off is a Heyco 6P-1, it's a real pita to reinstall it with a three wire cord. I've pulled 6P-1's off of mid-sixties Fenders. The correct part was chosen for a two-wire 18ga cord. The 6N3-4 works with a three wire 18ga cord. You'll thank me.

A Gear Page Forum User wrote:
When you make in-line connections like the white wire to one of the black power transformer wires, you want to use two layers of shrink wrap, not just one. Most shrink wrap is rated to 300V, so two layers is 600V, which is good with 470V rattling around in there.

Good advice all around. One note on the length of the cord...sometimes you can get nice cord from old computers and sometime they have the extra length...might check some old electronics stores, good will, etc., to find em cheap too.

Made some progress:

*Changed 2 prong power cord for 3 prong
*Installed a handle (was completely missing)
*Installed replacement dials
*The footswitch I picked up works perfectly. Reverb works, and 'Vibrato' works. Both sound amazing.
*Amp cover fits great, does not look the least bit 'authentic' but I like it.

So basically, it sounds incredible considering the tubes and speakers that are currently installed. I'm blown away.

Other amps I end up spending 15-20 minutes searching for the tone I want, and then I'm worried about bumping a dial and losing it. This amp, I set the Bass/Mid/Treble knobs all at 5. Then tweak the tone for a minute. Done. Wow!

I'll put up a demo when I get a chance, the next 2 weeks are very busy for me....

Strings...yeah SR's are hard to get a bad tone out of! Everyone I have ever played had great reverb...usually outstanding reverb! Not sure why the reverb is always so good in these.

Glad to see your making progress on the refurb...no need to hurry!

Enjoy that puppy and look forward to the sound demo!

yeah he said at least 3 weeks. He has a lot of amps in line ahead of mine, but he did say the Fender amps seem to move a little quicker. I have a couple bills set aside from a gig that will pay for the cap job and any repairs. Can't wait to plug my Wampler Plexi Drive Deluxe into it.

A cap job will make a wold of difference, I assume the originals are still in. I am sure your pedal will sound very nice through the SR. I don't use pedal all that much some times I use a wah mostly just Reverb and Vibrato with in the amp

to my untrained eye, the caps looked original (they just look old). When I came into ownership of the amp, it still had the 2 prong power cable.

It would be great to crank this amp up to that happy break-up point but I don't know how often I'll be able to do that. The pedal is a "marshall in a box" type pedal that also has a "tube-screamer-esque" circuit.

I would like to pick up an attenuator but they're so dang expensive!

If they are original they must be changed as they dry up over time, and can cause all sorts of damage if they go south while using it. Most definitely take out the 2 prong and replace it with a proper grounded plug, you do not want to become the ground of the amp, as with the Keith Relf incident, Relf was 33 when he died from electrocution, in the basement of his home, while playing his improperly earthed (electrically grounded) guitar. Yes attenuator's are expensive, and SFSR are very loud, they sound great at Volume 6, I kind of like these setting with my strat; Bright switch off Trebile-5.5. Mid-7 to 8, Bass -4, tweaked + or - 0.5 , Reverb 2 or less, but we are talking 115 + on you db level, generally I used Volume 2.5 to 3 and still saw 88 to 103 db still very loud, when I plug in my SG I just switch the Bright switch on and my dark PAF's come to life. What I did instead of getting an attenuator was, I bought a Vibro Champ and a reverb pedal for everyday practice, I just need to save my ears, and now and than I go downstairs and blow my ears out with the SR

You know, I haul my Vibrolux Reverb around now, instead of the Super Reverb --- when gigging with buddies. Damn SR is so heavy and cumbersome. Tone is great. VLR doesn't come close to the shimmer and overtones of the SR, at volume. But, man... volume is so loud.

Wow this was a long restoration!:

Post subject: Super Reverb Amp - SilverfacePostPosted: Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:35 pm

So I had to create this account because apparently I made one too many unkind comments about the Mustang GT modeling amps and lack of support for previous generation modeling products and was banned from the Fender forum. FWIW, not Brads fault. He did some housecleaning and I happened to be acting like an a-hole at the time. Anyone seen Arth1 lately?

Anyway, the amp came back sounding amazing! It still looks like it's been to hell and back, but the tone is so sweet. Thank you Mud for the referral to the guy in Wappingers'.
The tech said in addition to the cap job, he went ahead and "blackfaced" it for me. I'm a very happy camper! :)

Here is a recording. The piano, bass, and drum machine were recorded 15 years ago. That's my girlfriend (at the time) on piano, and I played the bass and programmed the drum machine.

The guitar part was added using the Super Reverb. The other star of this recording is the Boss CP-1X compressor. What a great compressor pedal this thing is. The combination is incredible. That is the only pedal I used on this recording, the rest is the amp and my Epiphone BB King Lucille:

would be great if someone copies my response above before I get re-banned and it's deleted. I really only came back to respond to this thread and complete the story. 8)
