Actually, the grill cloth didn't get painted. It's definately not silver. I'm pretty sure it's gold sparkle, but I can never find a good comparison between 50 (nealy) year old wheat and gold cloth.
I need to figure out some pictures... I'll see if I can steal my room mate's camera tonight.

ImageI know the amp cloth isn't silver, because it's not remotely like my bassman, but it doesn't look too gold to me.

The Tolext is a little loose on the top sides, so you can see the blonde poking through...

That's contemporary re-issue wheatstraw cloth. Nothing spectacular about it -- it's not quite the right color and the weave pattern is about 30% larger than actual vintage Fender cloth.

There's a vendor from Hong Kong selling some pretty realistic looking gold-sparkle cloth on Ebay. I haven't tried any of it yet personally but I plan to for an upcoming project.

I thought it looked off, but again, it's so hard to find good resources... Well, Now I know I won't feel too bad about re-doing the tolex and grill cloth. It won't match my head, but I'm thinking blonde with gold. It'll give me inspiration to try to find a blonde head, and a real 65' cab to match my BF.
This old amp game is addicting...
