I saw this one and thought there has got to be someone on here wanting another project...and a pretty simple one.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1962-FENDER-PRI ... 460c0f9ea7

Thoughts?

Hmmmm. Seller can't provide photos of the amp guts as it is all packed for shipping. Just take his word for it that it is in good shape.

Ok BlueSky...I take back the "Easy" part, but transformer #s are correct and anything can be rebuilt...if you get it for the right price :!: :!:

Is current bid of $600 (including shipping) a "right price"?

I could save it.

But I wouldn't be willing to pay more than $750 for it at best.

with mint ones going for $1200, you might be able to save some money...

Baffle:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Princeton-6G2-1 ... 927&_uhb=1

Speaker - $100 for a Weber alnico (suggestion)

Hardware - $100

Could work.

I'm more nervous that it may have been packed in peanuts without putting the amp in a garbage bag first; it's how my 74 princeton showed up and I spent hours and hours trying to get rid of those static pieces of foam...

But under $750, and that's a good price. 6G2 tremolo - Mmmm.

The 6G2 tremolo is no different than the tremolo in any other Princeton or Princeton Reverb amp......standard bias-modulated power tube stage as used in the blackface and silverface models. The Vibrochamp's and Bronco's utilize the same circuit as well.

Arjay - thanks for clarifying. For some reason I was under the impression the earlier brown face Princetons had a different type of tremolo.

Where it got interesting as far as tremolo goes is with the "professional series" brownfaces -- those amps featured the multi-tube harmonic trem circuit, which produced a hypnotic almost doppler-like modulation that mimicked a true vibrato effect.

It seems that the BF Princeton has more desirable features (treble/bass tone stack) and the GZ34 or 5U4GB rectifier over the brownface. At least circuit wise.

I have owned (still own one) BF Princeton Reverb with the GZ34 rectifier. This tube really makes a difference in this amp. If you own one that has a 5U4GB, try a GZ34. To keep the idle bias within range the 22k-ohm C- to ground resistor in the 5U4GB amp needs to be swapped with a 27k or 28k-ohm one. Or go to 22k-ohms with an inline 10k-ohm bias pot.

+1...Beemer, you are so right, IMHO the best sounding amps tone wise have a GZ34 Rectifier and a ten inch speaker...BF Princeton and BFSR!!!!

No disrespect to the Vibroverb...but those GZ34 and 10 inch speaker compliments are simply MY favorites...it's not like there is really a bad sounding Fender Tube Amp from the tweeds right up to the last of some of the SF's and even a couple after those.

And I see the Princeton sold for $676 +$40 for shipping...so it just came under Arjays projected for saving it.

Most serious restoration techs who've been at it awhile have a pretty good eye for evaluating the potential of a "diamond in the rough", its practical market value, and what it may take to bring it back to factory specs and appearance. Nice, clean 6G2's generally command $1500 to $1800 so there's ample room for the new owner to recoup his costs to refurbish and turn a modest profit.
