I have a '84 Concert 2 x 10 and recently changed the stock speakers to Eminence Rajun Cajuns. I handled the amp carefully. Now when I turn the clean channel volume past 4, it makes a horn-like sound. -Never did this before. It gets louder as you turn it up of course. As long as I keep the volume under 4 its fine but that is no fun. The tubes are new and bias has been set. What did I do? Thanks.

Stilton...I too have an 84 Concert 2X10...Great amp, bought mine new and it has been very reliable. How are you liking the speaker change or did this noise occur right afterwards?

Never heard this problem, but have you had it serviced since new? If not then it is overdue, for at least a cap job, and probable some new tubes.

I am sure somebody will come along here soon and help you with the noise you are experiencing.

Hi there Stilton! Kind of seems like a tube has gone microphonic. Does the amp make the noise with no guitar plugged in? Also does it matter which channel is activated? Art

Are the new speakers the same combined Ohms and watts as the old ones?

My thought would be the possibility that the Ohms are lower than the minimum recommended.

Thanks to you guys who answered my post. Sorry I have been gone for so long. I will turn up the volume with no guitar and see what it does. I will also check the Ohm on the new speakers. I thought I had them matched. The tubes are new. Anyway, thank you.

I've heard of amps that make is "honking" tone, esp with low notes or chords. I kinda remember this was corrected by replacing the PS filter caps --- primarily the two caps in the first filter stage. That would be those 220mfd/285VDC caps.

How old are those main filter caps?
