Welcome back! Does this mean the refurbing to the house is complete? I saw earlier in the post you didn't have much good to say about the Jensen Mods. I wasn't an Italian Jensen fan either, but when I did my refurb on the second '69 Bantam Bass Amp I did, I tried a set of the Mod 12's and once broken in the highs were crisp, not harsh, the mids full, and the bass tight but not thumping. Granted they won't be mistaken for a Celestion Gold, but a good speaker none the less.

Good to know about the cables, something to add to the list of items to check during refurbs.

Speakers are certainly a matter of personal taste and situation
If your in a live band cutting through the mix is sometimes more important than golden warm tone and sometimes in the studio your favorite stage rig will rip your head off !

I don't get too excited over speakers, except to say i know when I like a certain tone 8)

Right now I'm messing with a 1980's Peavey Triumph 60 and I've done the tone stack mod, got serious with good tubes and that crazy GIANT Freaky super heavy Scorpion speaker has clean tone to die for !!! Yep its amazing !
I was sure my next move was gonna be a Swamp Thang or .......... name your poison, but as it sits I love the clean tone, Gonna need to beef up my biceps to carry the hog but it sounds Great.

PS I had to hire a second Roofer to fix some of what the first one did wrong and so no the house is far from done.

Yeah, you have a point about cutting through a mix!

I was never a fan of Peavey, until I heard a guys Mace in the late 70's. It had a good tone and was loud as a damn Twin. Don't remember what speakers those ran but I remember it weighed a ton too!

Sorry to hear about having to rework the roof. I hate it when you hire someone to do something and they do it half azzed!

For those of you who are always looking for vintage components to restore your amps, guitars etc
I spent a couple hours dismantling an old wurlitzer that was run by two 6L6GB (GE's) a 5U4GB rectifier and four 6SN7GTB
Trannies might be of use to a ground up builder eh ?
Lots and lots of .1uf 400Volt Sprague caps Like close to 100 of em !
.022uf .047uf tone caps
A lot of work but why not !

Transformer date codes were 18451 and 12453 so mid 50's build I'm guessing

These type of switches were commonly used in military communications equipment dating back to at least the early 1940's so Leo likely chose it as an "off the shelf" component to minimize R&D and production costs. Good enough for the Army, good enough for Fender.

I read in one of my Fender books that Leo said the reason for the 3 way switch was that was all that was available at the time. The pickup switching positions were driven by what was available.

Blues...You sure find some interesting stuff! Tre cool!

My PB files got restored okay. Thanks goodness. I have backed-up most of my images on an external drive.

Chris, the guts of that Wurlitzer unit looks as bad as my Hickok tube tester. Talk about a point-to-point rat's nest.
