Good deal! Hard to find those.

Does that amp have those weird 220k-ohm feedback resistors on the 6L6GC plates? Two resistors hanging off the main circuit board, one leg onto a separate terminal strip? I can't remember any other amp with that local feedback arrangement.

Chris, that AB165 Bassman is a hodge-podge of global and local feedback. Of which, most don't help the tone.

This one is dead quiet, however one 22 uf under the pan is about to puke its guts out so...........
48 plus years and running strong, from what i can see the circuit is untouched
We will get it all tightened up including some mods back to earlier specs AKA Blackfaced

The roof is finished on my house and hopefully we will be out of the basement soon and the Man cave will rise again !!!

I guess for the sake of getting good sleep... replace the main & bias supply electrolytic caps. Those are the nearly 50 year old original Mallory puppies. Check the fuse. And bias. Three prong power cord. Usual suspects.

Should be good to go, for maybe another ~50 years? Nice find!

Thanks Beemer !
After seeing the results of updating all the Lytics in my Super Reverb, i certainly will do the same for the bassman !

Proper faceplate on the way, i had a tailed logo in the parts drawer 8)

Very nice! I feel those drip-edge Bassman amps look better than the earlier blackface ones.

I have a thing for the early Silverface amps myself
So glad you can still pick them up for under 500 bucks and have yourself all the sweet tone you could ask for and especially if your able to do the maintenance and blackface mods yourself.

I ended up with a bunch of JAN spec 5751 tubes, they are the basis for my favorite tones from all of my fender tube amps, I highly recommend them for smoothing out preamp distortion

I agree, most new production tubes sound shrill by comparison. I personally love the 7025's. But a good nos 12ax7 is great as well.

P.s.
Shhhh, keep it down.....silver faces are begin to skyrocket a little!!!

Found this slant 2x12 cab for sale on Reverb.com
The guy had it listed for 40 and 20 shipping, just messing around i shot him an offer of 30 plus shipping
to my surprise he accepted the offer

I stuck a couple of speakers in there and modded the cab a bit to sit on its side, now All I need are piggyback cab mounts and thumb screws ! that black lacquer finish is pretty slippery.
