Bias check on them bad boy Mullards !
Image

THe bias was within 1ma of the old transformer, Go figure !
I was afraid that after getting used to the 75 watt tranny I was going to miss something , well it couldn't be farther from the truth, Now I have one of the sweetest sounding Bassman ever, BIG old sound !! authority X10 on the low end and sweet sparkle too.
I put a brand new 1960's RCA 12AT7 in the PI so its RCA 12AX7 V-1, RCA 7025 V-2, RCA 5751 V-2 and the new perfectly balanced RCA 12AT7 in the Phase inverter, An old but super strong pair of Great Britain made Mullard 6L6GC and I'm in love

Great job! These are such nice amps. Once you remove or fix those "afterthoughts."

Exactly Beemer !
If you can find one early enough in 69 or before its really pretty easy to get Blow your mind tone
out of one of these silverface Bassman heads.
I call them boutique killers, usually for 500 to 600 bucks you can have a very sweet sounding amp head.

At nearly 50K views here its obvious the Bassman is still a very popular amp !

Great rig for sure.

I always thought there were a 2 different sizes of Bassman cabinets, one smaller, one bigger, both original. Am I correct, or there was only one size that originally shipped with Bassman?!??

Arjay is the master of all things Cab size and dating, however i do believe the oversized cabs were later, like 1969 and up
Not 100% sure on that.
This is the smaller version ( my favorite ) !

According to Ampware site, the earlier silverface cabs were bigger than the later models. The 1968-1971 models being the size of the late 1967 blackface cabs.

Cabinet:
•Dimensions: Head: 8¼ x 22 x 9½, Cabinet: 40 x 29½ x 11½ ~ 1968-1971, 30 x 28 x 12 ~ 1972-1983
•Hardware: Knurled studs ~ 1968-1976
•Handle: Black strap handle with Chrome ends x3
•Feet: Casters
•Corners: Chrome Corners with Lip

Yep, I have the large cab with what looks like a 68 date stamp, and the head is a '68.

Would you guys recommend an open or a close back (smaller version) cab for Bassman Amp, providing it'll be used for a guitar only?!?

ps. I know the original has closed back, but this has some disadvantages over the 1/3 open back cabinet.

Thoughts please!

Excellent question Nikola !
The back of my new cab has two three inch round "vents" in the back
I am considering opening a rectangle in the back to make it 1/3 open back since its already been messed with

As you can see in the first picture the back was compromised as i received it and so it didn't bother me too much to cut out a panel.
The results... Less woofy more full sound from my Bassman
I like It ! 8)

So, you cut half of the back panel?
