Beemer, V1 plate voltage is 226 and 194 VDC; V2 is 248VDC. Guess I should R&R the 100K plate load resistors. But, yeah swapped out the 6072 for a 7025, still have the 5751 in the last stage. This amp being a 165, originally, had the screen grid and pre amp grounds in common. Seperated those today, helped the pre hum big time. A neat thing about the 165 is that it has that 27K and 8UF for V1. So I'm still using that. The amp is always in flux!!! Been thinkin' about punching a hole, and going for a tube rectifier & PT change. Oh Well, for now it's cruisin'!!! Art

Art,

I just change the last resistor in the power rail that powers the anodes of the input tube. Like the 27k-ohm, 1 watt resistor in the this amp. Say go to 32k-ohm or 35 k-ohm.

Appreciate your advice, Steve!!! I know you're spread pretty thin with all these posts. But this amp is only similar to the 165 in the last section of the power rail( I've talked about my "Bogus Bassman" in the past). But yeah, I'll check that option out!!! Thanks, Art

Hey Steve
You asked about the tone of that last 12AY7 / 6072A
Here it is in my Clark Piedmont
a bit of comp and reverb
Just fooling around but you get the idea.

Chris, that amp has quite an aggressive tone to it. Very nice. Glad the 6072 worked out.

Some of that aggression is due to the Cmatmods Signa Drive, its so quiet you can hardly tell when i engage it.
The route 66 comp is always on also.

Any way Thanks !!!
Now I have two good 12AY7 back up tubes for V-1 and about 25 excellent 12AX7 tubes.
I have a nice load of 5U4GB NOS RCA in original boxes too, and three Mullard 5AR4's now
and 6V6GT's and.......................................
I've got myself a pretty nice collection of tubes

The three knob Reverb on this amp is powered with a pair of 12AX7's , I have yet to even plug in the attenuator sic.

Hey did I mention the Clark is early enough that it still has Weber P10R speakers, instead of P10Q ?
I'm thinking of swapping a pair of Q's in the top to liven it up a touch.
Most likely stick with weber

Chris,

I like the Weber 10A125 ans 10A150 (I think that these are the recent Weber equivlent 10-inch to the Jensen P10R and P10Q). Most of Weber alnico last forever and take a bit longer to settle in, than a reconed Jensen of CTS.

I think that Weber's slighty heavier cone material versus vintage Jensen and CTS make for a delayed onset of OD. And maybe less complex harmonics at the lower volume levels.

I have two 1959 vintage Jensen P10Q, I had reconed. Was going to use them in that Blonde tremolux cab. But, you know what? The JBL E110s that were loaded in that cab sound absolutely amazing. Those speakers have a very rich and warm tone. Prolly some kinda magic synergy between speaker, cab, and amp. As the last set of E110 & D110F I heard, in an open back cabs, did not sound too good to my ears.

But, in this cab -- the tone is very much like a set of Vintage-30 I have with my Matchless.

I guess the point is, speakers are cab dependent. Got to experiment, But, of course you already knew that.

6072 breaking in?

:D

I keep thinking about a pair of P10Q to mix in with the P10R
The complaint with the P10R was that they were too warm and harsh when driven, i have not found any of those statements to be true.

Mine are old enough webers to still have the old Jensen designations (P10R) instead of the 10A125 /150 etc.....
and well broken in, The build date on the amp is in the year 2001.

I just wonder if adding P10Q in the mix will add much to it ?

Chris,

I have an AA764 Princeton Reverb with a 1990's Weber P10R in it. Very nice tone. Also, well broken in.

If you wan ta bit more oomph to the tone. Mixing the P10R with P10Q equivalents may work. Or even two Weber 10F125 with the P10Rs?

I'm officially a cork sniffer boutique amp snob !
I ordered a pair of Copper foil Paper in oil .022 630 volts for my Piedmont.
Someone in its past had pulled the first stage of coupling caps and replaced the PIO Clark used with Mallory 150's
Well Angela's Instruments is sending me the most expensive caps I've ever purchased !!!
Kinda crazy, but hey it was original and so....... 8)

I'll let ya know if there is any discernible difference.
47 shipped for two caps

I'd really be interested in the tone. I've splurge on Dynami-Cap (for clean tone) and Jupiter Beeswax (for more vintage tone). Usually, in input stage and PI couling caps.

Copper Foil PIO are excellent caps.

Good luck!

Chris...nice tone on that Clark...and some tasty playing too! By the way, your Fender amps called, they are feeling a little lonely

If you are looking for some extra zip in your Clark, you might try a couple Kendrick Black Frame 10's. They cost more than the Webers, but I think they sound a bit more like the old Jensen's with just a bit of extra oomph to em!
