I'll be honest, I like the tweed tones a little better, however the two old bassman heads have nothing to be ashamed of !!!

Keep in mine the tweed has a huge advantage in my opinion with the 4-10 alnicos that have breathed into that cab for twelve years now, and the bassman heads are kinda stuck with whatever I have in the two 2x12's
I would imagine a pair of weber 12A150's that were allowed to age a while would turn either of the Bassman heads into massive tone monsters !

The webers were svt P10R smooth cones in the piedmont from 2001 so again they give an advantage in my book.

Yes this is before I put the correct switch and three prong power cord in it.

Chris,

You're gonna get spoiled working on those. Not enough components to make it challenging.

Chris,

Very nice! I have this VC that I added two twisted heater lines to the tubes. Really reduced the hum. Will show you some photos (not those), once I get some posted.

Cool !
This one is very quiet, in fact not much volume till ya get to 2.5 on the dial.

Sadly i have yet to even check the Mullard 12aX7 that it came with, the RCA 6V6GT is a brand new (NOS) I had and the rectifier checks out, the Mullard looks pretty old, I'll try one of my sweet 1958 RCA's in there tomorrow
No need for a 5751, this dude is clean all the way to about 9.5

Steve, I'd be interested in the basic two wire approach(maybe an overview). I was considering that for my '55 Valco. Need to get into it, anyway. Need to R&R the volume pot and might also go for some pre amp sockets. That would be a good time to change the heater situation!!! Art

Art,

It's not that difficult. Just be careful with the lamp. Often one side is grounded in a not-so-obvious manner. With Fenders you just unsolder the tang, rotate the holder, and place a piece of breadboard in between the tang and the chassis.

On other amps the threaded portion is grounded. You either need to get another lamp holder or figure out a way to insulate the threaded portion.

Shows some photos... when I get back from this crazy 4 straight GY shifts.

Cool !
My firends at my local electronics shop found me a few "old tubes" new in their boxes
some 7025 and 6o72A's
Picking them up today

Beemer I'll e-mail you the list they gave me and see if any of the other numbers might be of use, those are the only two i recognized.
and there were only two of each of those.

Chris,

Check the resistance on that 6V6GT cathode-tied 470-ohm, 1 watt resistor. And maybe, replace the bypass cap.

Go with a 2-watt (or more) rated resistor. I like wire-wound (low-inductance) ones in this position.

A buddy of mine owns a sign company and so since ya cant get a replacement face plate I made one from two layers af very heavy vinyl decal material.

Second and more to the point of this thread
My local fender shop gave me an old SS junked out amp to take a patch of tolex from to fix the 69 Bassman and it worked perfectly !

I am in the process of taking that junked amp and turning it into a nice 1X10 speaker cab.
The baffle is now covered in 1950's organ grill cloth, the wood header (where the amp guts were) is a piece from an old sled, yep a kids old railed sled.

Handle and corner protectors are from the junked amp also

and adding to the above photos and stories
here is the 1969 with it's side all patched up, I was pretty happy with it for my first tolex experience !

the side closest in the picture is the fixed side

Image

Thankfully the junker amp had some age and so the tolex matched in wear and color pretty well.
Now I need two bassman back panels and an upper rear for my Champ !
