Guess I missed out on something. I thought Brad chimed in to compliment your collection, or found a face plate.

Chris,
Nice Fender family portrait.

Glad were past all that !

So glad the five year old wasn't looking when I opened that page !
Or worse yet my teenage daughter, she wouldn't understand why her dad was looking at such things.

Chris, that scenario did ocurr to me. Although my daughters are grown, in their thirty's, and piano players(not apt to visit this site), there is that level of respect that we need to have for anyone viewing our forum. I know Beemer meant no insult!!!! His appreciation of the God-Given form of women and it's inevitable connection to music is nothing short of our human experience. Wish I could better explain my view. But, yeah as a parent and grandfather, I've pretty well stumbled here and made a mess, already. Peace, Art

Now on to cabs !
I just need to find a nice fender cab for each.
I have a line on an upright 2x15 that has the Fender nameplate with the tail on it, the grill cloth looks blackface but didn't the upright cabs come after the silverface ???? ARJAY ?

The piggyback screw holes look to be on the far edges of the cab too.

If all goes well I'll pick it up tonight.
It is empty right now and I'm seriously thinking about keeping The 15" speaker layout, I'm told the baffle is in excellent condition.
Some Eminence legends maybe ???

Then one more small 2x12 for the other bassman and I'll have the collection I wanted.

This is what my VT-15 looks like. 2x15 upright. But it is silverface cosmetics.

Those look great !
I was able to come up with another small 2x12 piggy back from Chicago Music exchange.
I'll have to do another grill cloth exchange.

I'm gonna let the upright monster go for now.

I also bought a new (new for me) amp last night, I was able to find a killer deal on a Clark Piedmont with built in attenuator and reverb.
I had a Piedmont a few years back and it was the nicest sounding amp ever, I just couldn't justify the $$$ and sold it.
And its loaded with four sweet Weber alnico speakers too.
Nice !

I put a nice pair of Sylvanias in the 69 Bassman and set the bias, man it sounds a thousand times better than either the jj's or the Groove Tubes I had in it during testing and repair !!!

Man that old glass is the ticket !
I have liked the RI Tung-sol and TAD stuff too in the past, i have a matched pair of T/S Reissues on the way for the 67 Bassman

Also had a real nice pair of RCA 5881's that I stuck in the JTM45 clone, it was just what that amp needed ! It had jj's 6L6GC's in it when i got it the old glass made it sing ! 8)

Chris,

Glad you got the amp to "sing." Really, nothing like NOS. Whether the "standard" black plate RCA, Sylvania, GE, Philips ECG... whatever. At least, for tone and length of life. There are some new 6L6GC type that have good tone. Length of life is still being tested (compared tp the old US made tubes).

You know that is wierd? These "boutique" Chinese made tubes. Like PSVANE.

Check the price of four 12AX7 with neat box. These are selected Shuguang made tubes. Ones that nearly everyone threw out, when they bought amps in the 1980-90's. And replaced with RCA 7025 or Raytheon 12AX7A.

$200....

Crazy.

I keep the Groove tubes and the JJ's around for testing

I can't believe the difference it made in my jtm45 clone, that amp sounded good with JJ's, it sounds crazy good with the RCA 5881's in it.

I sat and played that amp for about an hour and just enjoyed the sounds I was hearing, to me that's success !

The 67 Bassman was the most pleasing of all the fixes, and in the chain of events it looks as if the bias board was the original problem shorting out the tubes, all the rest was just normal maintenance.

The Bandmaster reverb has a new home, the guy tried to buy it from me three times and finally I gave in and let him have it.

Next a mid sixties Super Reverb ! I do love the tube rectified stuff !!!

Chris,

A mid-1960's Super Reverb is a VERY nice amp to restore. For a not so big amp --- the Vibrolux or Tremolux is a worthy restoration project, too.

BTW... RCA didn't make 5881s. They did make very, very good coke bottle or straight glass 6L6GBs. My bet, is those 5881 are TungSol made-relabeled tubes. Also known as 6L6WGB.
