I'm just starting to understand the whys of the circuits and how to trouble shoot effectively, Guys like Beemer, Aclemapoppi and Arjay can smell whats wrong with an amp, from a different part of the country

Knowing where to look is a very good start in being useful to others, right now its just for my own stuff.

Enjoy the pictures !

Very cool collection, Chris!!! What is the Fender speaker cab(Bassman-Band Master)? And how do the two Bassmans compare to each other? Art

The piggy back holes line up for the bassman and not the Bandmaster.
But I love the sound of the B/M through it.
Eminence Swamp thang and Emi Tonker.

I have yet to A/B the two Bassmans, seems like the 69 has a touch more clean headroom, but the 67 still needs filter caps so........
My filter cap order is due in Monday, I went with F&T's again.

hopefully this is the last time I have to pull the chassis on the 69 8)
Kinda doubt it ! it has a little resistor crackle when you first fire her up, I chop stick tested every stink'n one and cant find it that way so.......

any way, I snipped the 500pf cap across the 100K plate resistor from V-3 as per having read it as a suggestion many times over, i used those NOS .2 600 volt caps I got from my friends down at the local electronics supply house.
I installed a 25uf 25 volt at the far end of the board, meaning that every electrolytic, coupling and tone cap is new on this beast ! with the exception of Two little ceramic disc caps.

Extremely responsive ! nice tight bass, just the way I like it !

Both amps are fully functioning and sound excellent !!!!

New filter caps showed up today for the 67

I can now do that job in about an hour to 1.5 hours

I can hardly tell the difference A/B except I only had an 8 ohm cab for the 67
so i had to push the volume dial about 15% more to achieve the volume of the 69.
and the 8 ohm cab has British flavored cones in it.

The 67 might be a tiny bit brighter but it could just be the speakers too
The 69 was plugged into the pair of C-Rex, which tend to be pretty warm.

Chris,

Very good news! Lots of good detective work, soldering-re-solder, & patience on your part.

Now, to break-in the new components.

:D

I did the jumper thing on the 69 and it sounded very cool !

Its fun to have all these toys to mess with.
And again after all that my son gets a good gig with a band and he's playing bass.
Go figure !

Still so glad to have been able to bring up my kids with music.

Like I told my wife, I learned more in the last month than I could in several years of reading.

I may offer the 67 back to the guy that didn't want to spend any money fixing it after letting him hear how awesome it sounds.

We'll see :)

So what is the "break in time" for caps ???

I contacted Fender to see if they had any access to repro face plates for my 65 Champ.
Since they got greedy and shut down the aftermarket and it doesn't look like they made anything available from themselves either.
What is the point ????
Too bad to all of us who are trying to restore old Fenders and thereby keep the good name of Fender and its glory days alive ???

Stupid !

The Champ gets some help !
I made a correct speaker cord and added a sweet little weber alnico !
The last owner had crimp on connectors and very cheap wire and RCA plug from like a toy radio
I used serious multi strand wire , a good RCA jack and soldered it all together, the other thing actually showed 5K ohms resistance from the possitive tip to the crimped on connector.

Goes to show ya gotta check everything !!!

Nice job, Chris. With the 1964 VC, I ramped up the new 20/20/20 at 525 VDC cap can (these are now available, again). Cranked it to "10." And let her wail.

Had one 12AX7 with this oddball harmonics. Pulled and replaced --- everything is nice now.

Enjoy your Champ.

You know guys, I would just jump on new caps for this 65 Champ, however its dead quiet, not an ounce of hum and it sounds so good !!!!

I do see one possible fault, I get no volume till after #2 on the dial.
Could be weak Caps but without hum ?????

This one is a keeper for sure !
Sure hope i find a faceplate (getting tired of hearing this yet)

Don't think that's appropriate for this forum !

The 65 stays clean all the way to 9.5 and even at ten its mostly clean
Unlike the above post (((Really steve))) ????
Family site here dude !
