Blues, congrats on the recovery. Nice music room, you are getting an impressive collection of amps! What size solder tip did you switch to, sometimes I seem to get too much solder as well.

I stuck with the Craftsman for now. they have a tip that steps down considerable, the only problem is that it is so thin it burns up.

Thanks the collection is a huge blessing for sure !
The 69 sounds exactly the way I've wanted it to, I now have clean sweetness up to about five on the volume dial and excellent punchy bass response too.

So I have a 65 Champ, 66 2x12 cab, 67 Bassman (project on the bench), 68 Bandmaster Reverb, and the 69 Bassman I just finished.
I'm ready for some summertime Blues jams !!!!

A nice 15" tone ring cab would sure be nice 8)

Blues...that is a nice collection and a fine looking practice room! If you ever decide that your too Bassman heavy and that 67 Bassman needs a new home, drop me a line and maybe we can work something out!

Me too !
You just don't realize how much solder gets down under the eyelets do ya !
When cleaning up that board I pulled sooooo much solder out of some of the eyelets that I wonder if the pools of solder were touching each other.

Good technique is very important, my last electronics class was in 1983 and I have not kept up with it over the years except to re solder a guitar output jack here and there.

It does seem to be very stable with the exception of the standby switch, its in desperate need of a replacement, the Kathunk !!!! on start up is most likely the cause of my tube flash (6L6GC's).

Lesson learned, Clean out every eyelet completely, secure the component, heat then apply the solder conservatively !
Better than having to go back several times and troble shoot something hidden under mounds of solder !!!!

I just spent some time with the Bassman, the Bandmaster Reverb and my ABY box.

The bassman has more punch (Giant Output Tranny), the B/M has reverb and a slightly smoother sound.

The B/M is warmer, however it has some very sought after Vintage glass in it too
The Bassman has JJ's and assorted vintage preamp tubes.

together ???? DANG !!! they sound sweet !

Introducing the 1967 Bassman
No its not up and running, it does however have a new baffle board and the drip edge re installed.
The top tolex has eight to ten Cig burns on it, my son says it adds Mojo 8)
Also took a proper style metal name plate from a cheapo fender case I had.
Now it at least looks legit and all the transformers are the correct date so......

Hopefully new filter caps will get her back !!!!!

Got shots were posted a little ways back.
See the AB165 with the two Orange drops in the first stage (poorly executed and not by me).

And I ordered this for the 65 Champ tonight

http://www.music123.com/accessories/web ... -8-speaker

I remember how sweet that last Silver face Vibro Champ i had sounded with one.
hey for 35 bucks why not ???

Maybe some fresh Electrolytic caps down the road, they all look original
47 years is a bit overdo !

Here is what the power cord looks like on the 67 now.
The other thing was a death waiting to happen.

And more fine work that I'll need to work on.

Yeah, you're spot-on about cleaning out the eyelets on the board. The hassle really makes life easier and more secure down-the-line. I use a syringe type solder sucker or braid in a tight pinch. But yeah, when I started out, I would just heat and remove the the part, add more solder and insert the component. But I had no formal education or internet tutorials. Oh Well, sometimes the seat-of-the-pants experience works out for the best. Art

Remember the 67 with the twist on caps and the Huge blobs of solder ???

I did a little fix'n up

One of the 470 ohm resistors on the 6L6 sockets was just laying on the top of the tab and a giant blob of solder was all that was holding it on

Image

A little better eh ?

And so for fun I thought I would check the test point at the two 220K resistors and what do ya know it said -61.0 volts dc
A slight turn of the bias pot and -44.5 and steady.
Dropped in some Sylvania 6L6GC's I had and she is singing !
Still some filter cap hum, not terrible but het they are 45 plus years old and a new set is on the way !!!! 8)

The family is growing so fast !!!!
