Chris, this amp is not a straight-up Bassman, is it? Looks to be more of a Band Master!!! It's a great score, no matter!!! Art

Chris,

Ok... how's the original modified AC568 Bassman sounding now? Steady idle bias? No orange plating?

I'm off, for one day, from graveyard shift --- for good behavior.

Fortieth week of '67......certifiably an AB165.

Looks like you're top-heavy in Bassman's now, Chris!

Again the 67 is on hold till i get 100% happy with the 69
Ya I shot an offer of 75 bucks to the guy who didn't want to invest in his $30 garage sale find  and he jumped on it, i figure even if I put a couple hundred in it I have a 67 Bassman

Back to the 69
I noticed on my layout of the AA864 that I have a wire going nowhere on the amp
from the ext speaker out to.........
I marked the wire and where it ends on the layout below.
Image
that 100ohm that goes to ground isn't there either

And too be 100% accurate it ends at an eyelet unconnected to anything, not shown on the AA864 layout.
So its just swaying in the wind.
wouldn't be too hard to replicate the rest of the aa864 here or is this getting in deep ?
what are the possible troubles with leaving it in this condition ???

Chris, that would be for the negative feedback loop. But that is now, not connected. Art

I revised the post (back to the 69) is what it should have said.

So then that wire isn't needed or should I build the NFB to AA864 specs ???

Just wondering.

Chris,

You tried the AA864 GNFB (remember the 820 ohm resistor)? And bad things happened. I think we decided that this happened because the phase inverter, 12AT7, has not been fully converted from original AB568 to AA864.

This conversion is NOT an easy fix-it for your amp. Go with no GNFB, as long as amp is stable and sounds good.

BTW... How does the amp sound now?

Sounds great !
It still isn't happy with high volume settings.
Ya I remember the 820, however it wasn't in the circuit like it is in the AA864 so I was thinking maybe if I wired it just like The AA864 it would stabilize the circuit a bit more.

Chris, what is the amp doing at higher volume? Beemer is right about the conversion to 864 specs. You'd have to go all the way back to the preamp's signal chain. Then the phase inverter circuit. A problem arises because the eyelet layout on the board is not the same as the 864. Art

It just seems to get a few extra noises and there is still that very faint bzzp sound
we talked about earlier.

Its faint but it does cause the bias to move a bit when the meter is connected to my bias right.

This is fine tuning stuff and no I still have yet to replace the .01 caps or a few more lead dress issues that I need to concentrate on, so All is not lost nor do i want to rebuild the original NFB
I just saw that wire leading to nowhere and thought, Hey ! that's not right.
So I'll remove it totally.
