This has been beat to death on the old internet !

Usually ends up on a rabbit trail or two

I have a shot at a decent black line drip edge 68/69 ish Bassman head and if I decide to make said purchase, i will want to UGHHHHH "blackface it"
Again online most of the info on what this exactly entails is hidden within a bunch of opinion.

Gonna need a little help on the tolex too, one side panel is nearly naked

It would be cool to have a parts list and maybe a layout with notes 8)

Not asking for much huh

The Bassman head requires the large chassis straps.

Thanks !
Ordered and awaiting !

Any suggestions on the circuits ?
I'll pull the chassis and get some pics up here later, fairly sure its an AB165
But I'm buying from an uninformed seller and so.......
Should be here in about an hour and a half or so.

Man the vintage gear is coming my way here again !!!

PS I ordered the aged cloth for that 2x12 piggy back cab I got the other day.
and proper rear panel screws / washers
Can't wait to see it finished !

BB...You sure have had your share of luck obtaining vintage amps and tubes lately! If it isn't luck then you must be living right!

Can't wait to see the cab finished. Since you want to blackface the Bassman, have you given any thought towards swapping the faceplate for a BF one? They have em from time to time on ebay. Just a thought!

The AB165 circuit was superceded by the AC568 revision in May of '68.

Check your chassis's build date to confirm what you have.

Blues, I think the AA or AB165 is a blackface circuit. It seems awfully clsoe to my AB763 Super Reverb. Minus some tone-stack variance.

Tube chart says AB165

Just got her home, sounds super sweet , started to cut out a touch at 10
One power tube Glowing BLUE and throbbing.

Been a little hacked on (see back of Chassis) I'm OK with it, Been needing a project and the price was reasonable.

More pictures later, my cheap craftsman Multimeter took a pooh so I'll pull the chassis after a trip to lowes. (later today).

I'll add the 2x12 I'm bringing back from a hack job instead of overposting on someone else's thread

How many times I gotta tell you guys?

Never trust a tube chart for circuit ID!

:x

Based upon the visible cosmetics, I'm "WAG-ing" that this is a '69 amp. Which means it's likely to be the AC568 revision.

You win some and then you loose some :x

I lost this round ! The kid writes me back and says he only owned it a week and played it one time.

Rusted out junk and a non original transformer
even though I asked him twice if they were original.

OK the kid is blowing me off and I must accept that I got a t least a little taken, by the time I put this amp somewhat right I'll have 500 bones in it and not be able to sell it as original.

That makes it mine and means I need to make it sound Sweet ! :!:

I've been blessed so many times with such great gear and sometimes at unbelievable prices, I have no room to moan, well maybe a little :D

So what are my options for an output transformer ? and is it something I can do without too much trouble ?

and about those sandbox resistors. clip em ???

Thanks as usual !

Start with the easy stuff first.

Find a proper 022871 output tranny. One dating to 1969 would be ideal but any era will work.
