Opinions??

After having the 69' for a while now, and liking the sound, I figure going back deeper into the golden years could only be better.

Thanks

Due to monetary costs aswell as sensibility of only truly needing one. But we all here know that isn't true. Would love to have both, but it just can't happen.

Hmm think of it this way, if you could only have one or the other what wouold it be and why?

Thanks

Funny, I have a 1962 Pro and a 1969 Super Reverb...

Two completely different tones. If you like tremolo --- the brownface 1962 circuits are some of the best. Esp those with the three 12AX7 driven oscillators. But, on a whole, they don't make the volume of similar type silverface era amps. And their tone is browner, more towards a tweed sound. Due to the gain stage setup. They tend to run the 12AX7s not as hard (around 190 volts on the anodes versus 230+VDC in the SFs).

Also, the great TS 5881 makes a completely different OD drive than the great RCA 6L6GC. A bit slower onset of OD and much more midrange centered than most 6L6GC types. 6L6GC tend to have a "scooped" out midrange. Which can brighten the tone.

If you gig --- and both amps are miked (usual case these days) --- volume isn't an issue. But, by themselves in a bar setting (noisy) --- the 5881 amps make about 32-38 watts max. And the 6L6GC can easily go past 40 watts. With a brighten, less Bluesy-brown tone to cut the mud.

You are going to have to try both, you make your decision.

The brownface Super's NFB loop and variable presence control is a contributory factor as well.
