I am trying to decide which amp to by between a '64 vibroverb custom reissue and a '65 twin reverb. is there that much difference? why is the vibro 1K more than the twin reverb?

I prefer the 64 Vibroverb Custom to the twin for several reasons. Of prime importance to me is having a tube rectifier. The 64' has a switch on the back to choose either transistor or tube rectifier.

Secondly, 40 watts is better for smaller places because it breaks up nicely at a lower volume, & the 15" speaker is so nice!

The Twin doesn't break up nicely at any volume. It's extremely loud too. I've seen plenty of greats playing twins in small clubs & I just really don't like them. I've had a couple over the yrs & they just don't break up worth $@!&.

For me, it was either getting this '64 amp or the 59' Bassman reissue, which also has a tube rectifier, & 4 X 10s. It sells for $1,300 & the 64' sells currently for $2,500.

The 64' Vibroverb Custom is my favorite amp I've ever owned, & I've owned many - been playin' 41 yrs.

Good luck with whatever you get!

No - No other tube amp gets as good clean tones as the Twin Reverb. That's what it's made for and known for.
