After seeing some of you guy recommend this book I decided to buy it. What a great book. Anyone with any amount of interest in fender amps should get this. I give you guys a big thanks and if you have any other recommendation I would love to hear them.

Wheeler's companion Stratocaster book is a worthwhile investment as well.

It too comes with an audio CD.

Most of the others I dig into are of a more technical nature
That is to say more of a discussion of circuits, tubes, speakers, cabinets etc......
The soul of tone is much more of a history of Fender amps

Glad your digg'n it !

Die-hard Fender addicts never have too many reference books.

Love the photos of the Princeton amps that goes across pages 28 and 29. Seeing that evolution of the princeton from woodie to blackface princeton reverb is cool.

I have all Gerald Weber Books
And many many other books on Fender too.

But not " how to hot rod.....I look at this book at store and for me not enough technical. I have some better ( for my taste ) . But it is a good book for anybody with some basic electronic skill and like to work in amp.

I found a couple of useful observations in the How To Hot Rod book
In fact I keep a book mark on the resistor color code page, big, bold and easy to read at a glance, some day I'll have it memorized

All this talk has me on the hunt, I'm looking for a late 60's silverface bassman with drip edge to match my bandmaster.
If a blackface bassman comes along I won't turn my nose up at it ! 8)

Found this one yesterday
The guy has hacked (modded) the circuit

What a terrible shame !!!!!

If you want a good book on power supply theory and improvements --- I recommend Merlin Blencowe's (The Valve Wizard) "Designing Power Supplies."

http://www.amazon.com/Designing-Power-S ... n+Blencowe

I'm a die-hard "good power supply is the basis of all great amps" knucklehead. Of course, I'm also one of those "the small of a woman's back is the basis of... well never mind."

Kind of crude, but this is the way we were taught to memorize the color codes. "Bad boys rape our young girls, but violet gives willingly." Remembering that black (bad) is zero, I start with brown (boys) one.

Bad........0 Black
Boys.......1 Brown
Rape.......2 Red
Our.........3 Orange
Young.....4 Yellow
Girls.......5 Green
But.........6 Blue
Violet......7 Violet
Gives......8 Gray
Willingly...9 White
