Update:

Given "Fender Electric Instruments" company no longer exists and the amp is 49 years old, customs stated it would take a brochure or advert saying made in USA as evidence. But actually finding anything online was close to impossible. I guess in the 50's and early 60's with no competition from overseas there was no marketing advantage highlighting made in the USA on sales brochures or adverts.

I submitted what I did have; one quote from the web, one Fender advert by “Arbiter Group” in the UK, actual photos of the amps back panel and tube label and various photos of simular amps. The good news after some correspondence with the courier company, this was enough evidence to prove the origin of the amp and it was actually made in the USA.

It's a little disappointing the lack of information on the Internet in this regard. As the years roll by it may just get harder to make any case with official-dom. Perhaps Tom Wheeler’s work is not yet fully done, there may be a market for a fully detailed publication on each major model such as the bassman while it may still be possible to gather the information before is lost forever. I believe Vox AC30 has been fully detailed in various publications for example.

The quote:
From web site www.answers.com the following is one of the few online quotes which mention the possibility the amps are actually manufactured in the USA. Also 1964 just happens to be the year my Blonde Bassman was manufactured Ie. in 1964 the 1500 amplifiers are produced in the United States...
and also infers “Fender Electric Instruments Company” will soon no longer exist.

“In 1964 Leo Fender, then 55, became ill and offered to sell Fender Electric Instruments to Randall, still his partner in Fender Sales, for $1.5 million. At the time, the company was producing 1,500 amplifiers, electric guitars, acoustic guitars, and other instruments per week, and was the largest exporter of musical instruments in the United States. Fender Electric Instruments employed 600 people, 500 of them in manufacturing.”

Thanks for your suggestions and my copy of Tom Wheeler’s The Soul of Tone is on order. 8)

Hi,
Does anyone have official documented evidence from Fender (ie. adverts or brochures or anything other document) that Fender vintage amps where actually manufactured in the USA.
In particular a Fender Bassman amp Blonde Model: 6G6B, 1964,
the reason being I need to provide proof to Australian Customs this 48 year old was manufactured in the USA. As the free trade agreement being Australia and USA states, US manufactured goods are duty free, but this needs to be proven.
We all assume Fender vintage amps where manufactured in the USA, but there appears to be no proof of this fact available on the internet at any site. Even Wikipedia site does not actually mention the amps where manufactured in the USA.
My other alternatives are pay the duty or ask FMIC (Fender) to fill out some customs documentation 48 years after producing the item?? The chances of Fender doing this seem slim.
Any is welcome.

Back to your original post: was the whole endeavor required for you not to pay the customs when importing to Australia, or anything else?!

As far as I know Australians are required to pay import taxes to any goods exceeding $1,000 in value.

Cheers!
