Don't forget all the rattles AKA hiss troubles several of us had with newer DRRI's that all turned out to be the Ruby 5AR4 rectifier tubes Buzzing/Rattling

I think three of us in a row found our rectifiers had issues and they were all the Ruby branded ones

That seldom happened in the "good old days"......

I have heard this overtone or harmonics riding esp on DRRI tones. It almost sounds like an oddball circuit board capacitance instability or coupling tone. Most apparent with decaying sustained notes or chords. Not unlike an amp with dried-out brittle speaker cone. Or dried out filter caps.

Good new issued GZ34's are hard to find. I'd go with those mil spec Philips ECG 5AR4 labeled as 5V4GA. And new filter caps. I know that I;m beating a dead horse, with this yaddy-yaddy-yaddy about that rectifier and quality caps -- but I've done prolly close to ten DRRI now, over the last 15 years. The combo of a good rectifier tube and caps that isolate sections well = very nice, clean Fender tone. Most of which are still in those amps I did (they have Sylvania 5AR4, US made 5U4GB, or some lucky few --- the Mullard GZ34) .

Please do not use Ruby Tube or other Chinese made GZ34. Unless they've been carefully selected. If you can't afford the Philips ECG. Maybe seriously consider the Weber Copper Cap. You'll lose the nice tube sag and breathing quality, but you/ll gain a lot more reliability.

Or look for an NOS or good testing US made 5U4GB. Doesn't matter what brand. RCA, GE, Sylvania. The best IMHO? The BP 1950-60s TungSol 5U4GB. But, really any US make will outlast the DRRI circuit board. Three times over.

The only new replacement I found that worked fine was the Russian Sovtek
I have a stash of Vintage GZ34's now so the russian stuff sits on a shelf.

However it fixed the buzz in two DRRI's for me

as far as voltages and specs, thats your world Beemer !
I'm FAR less technical

Blues, from Dynaco boards, IN GENERAL, the Sino or Shuguang made 5AR4 equivalent can handle (or pass) more current than the Sovtek 5AR4 (Reflekor Saratov plant).

BUT, the Chinese 5AR4 tends to arc more with higher voltages, than the Sovtek (pushing 475-500VDC). So, choose your poison, for long term use.

Yes, and I've noticed that no one here has acknowledged actually hearing it either, but recommendations have nearly covered rebuilding the entire amp.

I've lost interest and have unsubscribed. The OP also has a thread on the same subject in the Lounge with a whole 'nother set of suggestions.

I'm still thinking a faulty tube. First of all does this happen on both channels? If snap, crackle, pop is not present that takes arcing out of the picture. Hiss, after the note decays, tells me that the amp is producing it's own input signal onto the grid or plate. JMHO! Art
