I needed at least the q's for power. Don't have a tremolux yet but will want to put other amps thru it (bandmaster, Mini Z). Vintage 10q's are a lot more.

Any thoughts on reconed AlNiCo CTS 10s? They seem a lot more reasonable in price than the Jensens...

They looked "repaired" , but not reconed. I would pass. Before those I would go with the weber signature 10".

They come smooth and ribbed. Weber says the smooth are not as bright(warmer) as the ribbed and they break up sooner.

The CTS alnico's are my preferred brand/type of ten-inch speaker. I've been flogging a pair with my '68 Bandmaster combo conversion for a couple of years now after re-coning them with 30-watt coils. They punch and bite better than any other similar-sized speaker I know of, with the possible exception of the vintage Jensen P10Q. I have a CTS alnico in my '65 Princeton Reverb as well.

Thanks Arjay. May pick those up and send them off to Weber for reconing. Would make the cab that much more period correct and with 30 watt cones, sturdy enough for my Bandmaster.

......And they say "Fender" on them. They may not be period-correct for the cabinet but at least they're "brand-correct".

Thanks for the correction Arjay. Waiting for next week to talk to the Weber folks, but will go between reconed CTS speakers and their 10A125 AlNiCo.

Arjay - date codes on the used ones are:

164121 137 7140

Don't know much about date coding speakers - would be grateful for a translation...

Made in the 40th week of 1971. Those in my Bandmaster combo are the same year. The "164121" is Fender's in-house P/N, denoting use in a Super Reverb or Vibrolux Reverb.

I wouldn't recommend flogging them (or the Webers) with a Showman head but for use with a Bandmaster, Bassman, or Tremolux they'll be great.

Nedo...You just can't go wrong with a re-coned CTS Alnico. I have a re-coned one in my 64 Princeton (courtesy of Arjay) and the more I play it the better it sounds. I had four of them in a 72 SFSR I had and they sounded awesome in that amp too although those were originals! Great choice for a speaker.

Someday I may wire a quartet of them up to a Deluxe Reverb chassis.

Sort of a "Superette Reverb".

The $hit you come up with... I'd love to hear what that sounds like!

I'm also a huge fan of the Alnico CTS, they're just heavenly! 4x10 CTS in a SR is as good as it gets IMO.

You could always mix a CTS with a C10Q in your cab... :D

Mojotone Delivery Day!

Received the new 2x10 baffle and the hardware.

I had ordered the Weber 10A125 30 watt alnico's; they're not here yet.

Will be going to NAMM Saturday so may take a crack at it on Sunday, or will at least unscrew the old baffle.

Couple questions:
Judging from the side 1x2 pine strips on mine that were gouged out, should I replace them? Were these originally glued into the cab at the factory, and if so, how much work is it to remove and replace?

Speaker baffle - pre-drill the holes for the screws to hold it into the cab or no need?

Speaker baffle - install into cabs with or without speakers attached?

thanks - want to do this right and I know folks like Arjay can do this in their sleep...
