You can do it that way or use an A/B/Y box like a Radial Big Shot.

Going direct via a patch cable from input to input does exact a toll on the available signal strength to the jumpered channel.

I checked one of those out...seems pretty straight forward. So this brings all the 12AX7 preamp tubes into the mix (only two of em in the bantam, the third is a 12AT7 and is the phase inverter I believe) so if I understand this right the Bantam uses both sides of each 12AX7 for two stages of gain for each channel...i.e. one 12AX7 per channel. Am I getting this right?

Just goes to show ya...even after 40 years of playing, still learning new stuff!!!

That's the gist of it, Sergeant.

But instead of cascading all of those gain stages in series, you're putting them in a dual/parallel configuration -- which makes for some interesting and not altogether unpleasant tones.
