Hey All,

I've got a "limited Edition" Fender Blues junior from 2012 Cream/Wine with cannibis rex speaker and I love it. From the research I have done it seems as there was 600 of this particular one made.

My question is......Given that they have several Limited editions over the years i was curious as to if these amps tend to go up in value over the years or do they appreciate at the rate of normal blues jr's?

I'm asking this for purposes of getting it insured in the future.

Any Info is welcome.

Thanks

Dave.

This is the vintage amp forum. Suggest you post this question in the modern amp forum.

Other than a different speaker and cabinet covering, it is still a Blues Jr. Not something that is going to appreciate.

BigDave78...Might be better to put over in the new amp forum...but here is what I think...it might add $100 at most to the amp, since that is close to what you would have had to pay extra for it to begin with... hard to tell what the future will deem collectable, but 600 is not all that exclusive...

When I insured my guitars and amps I did it as a special writer and the value was based on "Agreed Value", so if anything were to happen to them, then they send me a check for our agreed value. Only thing is every couple years if they have gone up in value, I need to adjust that agreed value.

Typically, most any MIM amp is not going to increase in value, no matter how "limited" it is, and even the MIA BJr from before 2001 has depreciated. A used standard MIM BJr might fetch $300 or so, and the limited editions might bring a little more than a standard version, mostly due to the speaker upgrade, the MIA maybe a little more still. Having said that, the BJr is a fine amp, and the different colors and speaker options add a little to the cool factor. Yours looks very nice ( I assume, since you didn't post a pic :( ) and the CRex speaker is one of the best for this amp. I have a plain ole black one, but it sounds great. :)

Sorry for posting it here if it was the wrong place i just assumed that people with a knowledge of vintage amps would be able to better tell me about this as they have seen the trends in amps over 20+ years or more.

thanks for the info.

P.S. this is my Amp and strat...

Nice looking amp.

I have to concur with the others. "Limited Edition" and "Collector's Edition" monikers are typically used for marketing purposes and normally have no bearing on future value. "Limited Edition" could mean anything from the actual number of items made to a period of time such as 6 months. So you could be talking to a set number such as 100 units or 3,000 units made in a six month period.

When it comes to buying anything "collectable" you need to buy what you like because if it never increases in value or decreases, at least you have something YOU like. :D And these modern items rarely increase in value. Think about this..... a American Standard Strat made 20 years ago (1992) is still about $600-$700. Probably the same price it originally sold for. :?

Enjoy the amp. If in 50 years it increases in value.... your grandkids will thank you. :D

Yes i totally agree with you and the reason i bought this amp was first and foremost that i love the tone and it suits my needs perfectly at the time. I'm in the early stages of collecting guitars and amps and was just curious as to the appreciation of newer and limited edition items for insurance purposes.

I thank you for your insight.

Dave.

FWIW - if you're thinking about "investment"....... you can buy a vintage Fender amp such as a silverface Champ, Vibro Champ or Princeton for about the same price or even less than some of the new modern amps.

I have stopped buying modern amps and I only buy vintage amps now. I been much happier with the tone I get from those older amps. Doesn't mean I might not buy one in the future, but highly unlikely. I am not buying pristine collector amps, but nice solid players. I only buy small watt (student) amps and I only play for my own enjoyment.

While I still don't recommend "investing" in collectables - I'll probably get my money back with a vintage amp.
