Metal tubes were not used by Fender in their amps in the 70's. I'd have to say they are not original and are probably much older than the amp itself. I have a 69 champ that came with the original tubes when I bought it a few years back. They were glass RCA's.

Dave, I have seen a few 1960-70's amps with original metal tubes. Rare in guitar amps. But, RCA did produce some metal types, mostly for TV and RF transmitter use, Check the RCA logo on the tube, in photo above. That is mid-1960s and later style.

And the 5Y3 and 6V6 were used a lot in TVs. Up until mid 1970s.

Anyhow & in general, they tend to give the amp a much brighter tone than their glass bottle brothers. So, some folks actually seek these types. Esp for use in amps with octal tubes in the pre-amp stage. The 5693 (6SJ7) pentode has a very good reputation for tone FWIW.

Metal tubes are more susceptible to microphony. So, selection is important.
