Just a heads up. There have been several of these "US made" NOS 6L6GC ads on EBay. First off, Raytheon never made a 6L6GC. I believe the only 6L6 type they made were the 6L6G and GA. Definitely coke bottle types:

Next, notice the unique shaped saucer-shaped getter ring (on bottom part of tube, facing down)? This is a dead give-away it is a Russian made tube. This particular "6L6GC" is not a very good one. Really, not a 6L6 type but an equivalent. Built for industrial use. FWIW...

The second picture definitely looks like a Chinese tube to me. The plastic spacer at the top is indicative of Chinese tubes, you don't see them on Russian tubes. The box looks faked too, and there are many more fake tubes from China than anywhere else.

Shimmy, Commie fer sure. No, Kaluga made output tubes of the 1960-70 that had those funky "wings." The "flying saucer style" getter is Russian.

These tubes must be bias in the 6L6GB range of 15-19 watts. They are not true 6L6 type (don't have the inherent impedance of the classic RCA line). So, coupled with a kinda poor design and impedance mis-match to the OPT = not so wonderful tone.

But, that doesn't stop ppl from trying to sell them as real 6L6GCs.

BTW... first photo is a real Raytheon 6L6G (1940's vintage). These are great tubes. Esp in tweed & woodie Fenders.

Either way, good job spotting the fake! I hope this can help some people, and prevent them from buying crap like this. Maybe you could start a thread called "Fake Tubes", or something similar, where we could have a single resource to help spot the phonies being offered for sale. There are probably enough ads out there to keep the thread updated every week.

Shimmy,

That would be a full-time job.

There are a TON of fakes or questionable relabeled tubes out there. Best to study the really thing. Know internal structure and dating/manufacturer's codes. The best site for a library of the "real things" is TubeMonger's site. Just click onto each type for the library. You can use ADVANCED SEARCH or just toggle from page to page.
