OK...... here we go, I think...........

What I have is as follows:

1) The SS-1000 Supershowman Amp Head
2) One Powered Amp XFL-1000 which is 30.5 inches high with 4 12" speakers
3) One Powered Amp XFL-2000 which is 48 inches high with 8 10" speakers

These were never abused..... I used the entire setup to power an electric saxophone and flute! Yes..... a flute and sax..........

Old ad for amp.... this picture shows 2 of the larger cabinets.

My set up cost about $1,600 back in 1970 (that would equate to over $9,000 today!

Image

Here is an actual photo of my amp head.........
Image

This is the device that I used to power the flute and sax through the fender.... It was made by Gibson, and was called a Maestro!
Image

My brother and I worked in night clubs (usually for 2 to 4 month contracts), so they were not moved often, but they did see a lot of smoke filled rooms in the 70's. Therefor a restoration would be little more than new grill clothes and some rechome!

As you can see, there is smoke discoloration, but no tears in the fabric, which is an indicator if how careful we were moving these monsters!

Image

PS.... here is a picture after a cleanup suggested by Arjay!
Image

PLEASE GO FARTHER IN THE POST SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE AFTER SOME SIMPLE CLEANING!!!!! I should have cleaned them prior to posting the pictures with dirty grill clothes!

More pictures

This is the smaller cabinet........ (there are attachment screws inside the amp head, to secure it to the speaker/Amp)
Image

The tall cabinets with 8 10" speakers......

Back of tall housing.....

Back of both....

More info..............

As you can see (sorry for the blur!), this was a very expensive amp to built, and doubtful that Fender recovered the development costs!
Image

Well, that is it.........
Image

One more old ad..............................
Image

By the way....... I just looked at the Grills on all three items, and there are NO tears in any of the grills, discolored, yes....... but no tears. and the pictures, which were taken in direct sunlight highlight the discoloration. Inside the house they look much better! And they do work (and loud, if you like).

That cloth would prolly clean right up with a light spritzing of Windex and a damp rag (remove the speakers first, of course).

Beware the oil in that "reverb can": it's a known carcinogin and quite toxic.

Seriously???? That would be fantastic, as I looked at the grills VERY closely and the material looks to be in great shape..... not one tear!

Will try it tomorrow morning!

Before and After of XFL-2000...... This Windex Trick Really Works! I have cleaned them twice.... after first windex treatment, looked better, after second application, they look great. Will do one more treatment and they will be done!

You guys have a great contributor here! Thanks Arjay!

Some re-chrome of corners.... and these things will be 90%!

BTW..... I got some emails, asking if the following picture was a "file picture"?

Nope..... it is a picture of the pre amp head, prior to any cleaning!

Light tarnishing and minor surface corrosion can be removed from metal parts and fasteners with Brasso (do not use steel-wool!). Be sure to remove the parts from the cabinet before proceeding.

Fender no longer sells the vintage corners -- there are some aftermarket types sold on Ebay that will fit the existing holes. I think the vendor's name is "j4jamaudio". I've bought several sets from them before and they snapped right into position without the need for "persuasion".

I tried PMing but it said technical difficulties

I wonder if someone here could do me a HUGE favor, I have one of these and its missing the reverb tank, would it be too much trouble for you to take a look at the tank in yours and tell me the numbers on it? Without them I don't have any chance of getting the reverb to work

much appreciated if you can help me out!
Angelo

I would email consumerrelations@fender.com or see if there is a Fender authorized service center you could call and check that part number.

http://www.fender.com/dealers/service-centers/

You could also try Accutronics and find out what parts they supplied to Fender for that model. http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/ Not sure if they kept records on that.

Accutronics did not supply the reverb tanks for that amp, or any other Fender model built during this era. Back then, the tanks were sourced through Gibbs.

AFAIK, the tank for a Super Showman would have identical specs to those used in Fender's first-generation solid-state amps. If you can find someone with one of those amps, ask him/her if they can take a look at their tank and send you the model number. Then you can cross-reference that with currently-available Accutronics units for a match.
