Hi there I wondered if anybody out there might have any tips on what to do with this amp which is giving me an intermittent hum which disappears if you give the amp a light tap, but comes back pretty soon. It is only really obvious when I'm not playing.

Pull and spray a little contact cleaner on the tube pins, sockets, jacks and plugs.

If this doesn't work, you may have a bad solder point. This prolly requires pulling the amp and using a WOODEN chop stick to test the solder points.

You may wish to take the amp into a tech or check your warranty, at that point.

Good luck!

+1

A microphonic tube is also a possibility.

Remove the cab's rear panel.

With the amp switched on and some volume dialed in, and with nothing connected to the input, use a chopstick, popsicle stick, pencil, or other dielectric (ie: non-conducting) probe to gently tap each tube's glass envelope then listen for corresponding noises emanating from the speakers.
