Why did you feel the need to change the transformer?

From my understanding with the new speak and load going from an 8 to a 10. It also help improve the tone quality and it did.

What kinda replacement output tranny you use? I hope you kept the original. Resale value can drop with replacement parts.

How did you replace the original 8-inch speaker? Can the original be put back into the amp?

My experience: Good 8-inch and good 12AX7, 5Y3GT, and 6V6GT goes a long ways to tonal bliss. Be sure that cap can is up-to-date. Esp if you are using an oversized aftermarket OPT.

Have fun with the amp. It has a lot of tonal possibilities.

Yea I kept all the original stuff its something I just had to try. The amp was good but now its better add some wet to it and its great practice amp or play it out and mic it.
Cheers

Do you have any photos of the 10-incher in the Champ cab? My experience, it's hard to fit even an aftermarket 8-inch into the cab. And not have the magnet assembly interfere with the tubes or cap can.

Thanks!

A "shallow-draft" ten will fit, Steve -- just as a twelve can be shoe-horned into a Princeton Reverb. Forget about a Tone Tubby or a Jensen with a bell cover though.

Thanks, for the photos! Where does the amp/speaker break-up now? Past "6" ?

Is that the new OPT? Looks vintage, with the hole in the frame and the oil-paper cover.

BTW--- if you are wish a bigger tone & slow-warmup. Look for a good GE 6087 rectifier.

Thanks for the tube info, I have to try those. After more playing it appears I was off on the break-up point depending on string attack between 7-8 when I add an OCD or Ibanez 9 with a DD2 delay to give it depth it is outstanding. The addition of the 10" has allowed so much more head room and clarity its not the same amp its better.

Wow, cool! I was wondering how a 10" would fit in there. I've got a 1973 Champ with a Weber 8A125 and my tech had to get a bit creative with the Dremel tool to shave off a bit of one of the edges on the speaker basket just to fit the new can cap in there when he rewired it (restored it to original spec with new caps/resistors - it had been molested pretty bad somewhere along the way. Let me put it this way: we found lamp cord inside).

It fit without issue and well worth it. 10" just gives it that like extra that the 8" seems to lack and being a blue out of a bassman it just seemed to work.
