Wow that's a clean amp. No reverb though! Deal breaker for me! Anyway That 68 super sounded so damn good I brought it on home with me! I love it. The breakup is so sweet! And it is not as loud as I thought it would be, which is a good thing for sure. Breakup starts at 5 on the dial and by 7-8 it's on fire! The clean is fantastic of course. It was recently through the shop and it is loaded up with JJ tubes, and they sound pretty good. I can only imagine this amp with good old glass in it. I'm on the hunt for some reasonable, good testing used old tubes for this old gal.

thenedster, Good luck with your Super Reverb. Prolly a good idea to check the idle bias (I know, I always post this --- but an ounce of prevention....) :lol:

NOS tubes to look for, that sound sweet in this amp (besides the standard RCA BP 6L6GC) --- the Holy GE (pink based) 7581A, Philips ECG 7581A, GE double getter fat bottle 6L6GC, 1990-2005 made Svetlana SV-6L6GC (=C=), short or tall Sylvania "chrome top" 6L6GC.

The 7581A can be biased hotter than a 6L6GC. By about 10-20%. Tone and stable plates being the criteria.

That Deluxe is in amazing shape. bet it would sound good with a Reverb Unit...

Thanks. This amp just came through the shop, same tech who does amps for Duke Robillard. I was assured it was biased. It sounds really really great. The guy I bought it from had saved all the old pre amp & rectifier tubes and gave them all to me. I haven't looked in the boxes yet but he said they are all still good. Maybe there is a goodie in one of those boxes! I have a couple NOS Raytheon black plate 12ax7's hanging around. I'm thinking old power tubes will make a big difference, although I must say the JJ's sound good. But every amp I ever had CP power tubes and swapped them for old glass I have always been amazed at how much better the old ones sound. Really the only CP power tubes that worked for me are winged c SED. They have gone up so much that I think I can get good testing used old tubes for the same or less $.
I would post pics but I do not have any idea how to do it. Is there a tutorial on the FAQ or do I just figure it out?

Well, I use Photobucket (you need a "cloud" Net site to upload your photos, first). Then, scroll over the links below the photo to the IMG Code (for this site). And Copy and paste. So... this:

Becomes this, with [img] replacing {img}

Must credit Arjay, for this t*i*ts! err.... tip! :lol:

Which is why the phrase "They don't make 'em like that anymore" has always been true when it comes to guitar amps......of any brand.

Rawk on!
