Gentlemen:
I am looking at a couple of older amps that I had never heard of but need reality check on for value, quality, and fair price (of course)

1981 Fender "75".

1979 Music Man 112-RD-EVH 100 Watt

Much appreciated,

If it doesn't have a power tube in the circuit...I'm not that interested

The Fender 75 was one of Paul Rivera's first designs after FMI brought him on board to oversee the amp division. It was a not altogether successful attempt to replicate the Mesa-Boogie philosophy, with pre- and post- gain controls, pull-boosts on each tone control, and an effects loop. It doesn't quite do Fender "blackface" as well as its cosmetics would suggest and it fell somewhat short in the saturated-overdrive department. That said, it was loud, dependable, and offered more sonic flexibility than say, a silverface ultra-linear Super Reverb or Twin Reverb. On the secondary market, these amps are worth between $450 and $650 (the higher price would reflect an amp equipped with the upgraded OEM EV or Gauss speaker).

Thank you Arjay. Asking price is in the range, but I haven't seen the amp in person yet.

Try to shoot some pics when you go to inspect it. Posting them here will give us all an idea of the overall shape and how much of the original amp remains.

Sold before I could get to it to inspect and take photos.

Probably went for above $500 (because that is what I had offered, unseen...) Asking was $675. The amp was bought (by the reseller) for $400 on Sunday and flipped Monday for what ever he got.

Whoa! Hold up there! The 75 was actually an Ed Jahns design. It's a common misconception that it was Rivera who did it because the 75 was released shortly after he was hired by the company. It was one of the last that Jahns designed for Fender, and in the years following Rivera killed off all the preceding designs and replace the amp line up.

Just checkin' to see if you've been paying attention in class, PTM.

Actually, you are correct and I was mistaken. Ed was the "god-father" of the 75 plus the companion 30 and 140 amps. I think his last work for Fender was shepherding the Studio Bass combo amp into production.
