Sorry TBAZZ, never used any Ruby Tubes, although I have heard some good things about them. I would go with a set of NOS if it was me, but use em until you get a set and see if you like em...or maybe Arjay or Beemer will stop by here and give us a more informed opinion on em.

Definitely not a '64 amp, though the chassis does contain some pre-CBS components. Pretty clean for its age too. Put a CTS alnico or a vintage C10R/Q in it and you'll be off to the races. Nice score!

Arjay...care to explain to this neophite why this isn't a 64? Faceplate says Fender Electric Instrument Co. and I though the Tube Chart said "NL"...December 64.

Well cleaned her up changed that god awful speaker to a CTS from 69 and it sound beautiful. Very chimey. Perfect amout of breakup at 10 and not overly loud. I can see why they record with these. I so quiet. Very happy. I just need a foot pedal for the tremelo now.

TBazz...those CTS speakers are amazing in these amps aren't they? Glad you got it all cleaned up but where are the "After" pics?
As for the footswitch, here is one that is vintage correct for your Princeton...

TBazz...Glad to help, I was lucky, my amp came with it's original footswitch, and the link I sent looks exactly the one I have.

Yeah Humbuckers do sound great with these amps...just ask Duane Allman, he was using a Princeton (Reverb) with a Les Paul during the Derek & The Dominos Layla album sessions :!:

Legend has it that both Duane and Eric played 5C1 tweed Champs on that album......?

Arjay, you know that 6SJ7 (5693) is quite a tube for input use. Pentode metal cased tube have this sparkle and not as steep gain curve as duo-triodes, like the 12AX7.

You need to fiddle with guitar knobs a bit more. But the onset of OD is more in the hands of the guitarist's fingers, IMHO.

My Champion 600 has this brown tone that is quite unique. Esp versus the 5F1 Champs.

Plus good red case JAN 5693 are dirt cheap, still.

As I understand it, Duane said he played the Princeton, Clapton played the tweed Champ...Clapton said the same thing...at least that is what I read in interviews with them. Either way, great amp!
