Well how's that for coincidence, I saw them on that same tour, my first ever live music concert. In fact, it was exactly one month before the Sacramento show: Providence, RI, 3 Nov., Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Ticket price $3.50...same as an album.

Anyway, I didn't know that about Keith in CA. I did recently learn the fate of the other Keith, which is what started me thinking about the safety of my old gear. I've taken to heart all the great advice received and will indeed have the tuneup done. Since I'm not up to doing the work myself I assume a certified Fender repair center is my best bet. I'm working and living away from my home base / comfort zone and don't know anyone locally.

Yeah, you must keep in mind --- electricity will always follow the path of least resistance. That means potentially BACKWARDS, from amp to guitar through the guy holding the guitar to ground.

Honestly and candidly, you'd be better off finding some aging coot with a hole-in-the-wall shop who's familiar with the older Fender architecture. Likely, he'll know all the secrets to restoring your amp to its full potential. We've mentioned a few of the issues to watch for but there are others as well that are just as important to keeping your Princeton healthy.

+1 Can't stress what Arjay is saying, not only for the safety but finding someone who really KNOWS your amp. I asked other guitar players in my area and it took a bit of time and I settled on the one that had a well worn RCA Tube Manual on his work bench! He has worked on three of my amps ('65 SR/'84 Concert/' 69 Bantam) a pretty good spread of chassis' so I am more than comfortable with his abilities. At least for me it was important to trust the guy working on my amps.

A great way to find "your" guy is to call him up and tell him you have a Fender Cyber-Deluxe that's making squawking and squealing noises and you'd like to have it repaired. If he doesn't hang up on you outright or tell you "Sorry, sonny -- I only work on real Fender amps", then he's your man.

Thanks, for the note. Been a little quiet here, lately. Maybe it'll warm up as the weather cools down.
