Arjay, Thanks for the advice. Never had a recone done before. What's that sort of thing run?

With the speaker needing reconed, I think its reasonable to start the conversation at $900 to $950. He's asking $1,199 .The only reason to stay close to his number would be if he pays for shipping. He needs something to cover ebay, paypal and shipping fees. Those can be calculated. If he had a local brick and mortar, I walk into his shop offer him $200-$300 less, which would about cover those costs. Regardless, I think I'd keep those fees in the back of my head when I was negotiating a price. Good luck.

Figure sixty to seventy bucks for a quality re-cone.

Got him down 150 with shipping included. Right in the middle of the bid/ask range it looks like.

What's the letter stand for at the end of the Jensen code? A C10Q is what he is shipping. C is for ceramic, 10 is a 10 inch speaker, and I thought the last letter was the power rating. Is that right?

Yep you got it spot on, the "Q" is your power rating. In this case it is 35 watts.

Thirty watts.

The "P" is Jensen's 35-watt coil.

Tony,

Here's a nifty little site re: Jensen speakers. Whether vintage or re-issue or what-not.

I got the amp in the mail today; Haven't actually played it yet. It was packed really well, and externally its what was pictured. Haven't pulled the chassis yet.

Couple of things are a little annoying though. It was photoed with an old set of sylvania tubes, but came with new russian tung-sol 6v6's and a GT 5ar4 rectifier, which isn't the correct one. I have a 5y3, but its still dumb that they didn't include the specified tube.

It came with a middle of the line alnico sig10s weber, and the guy threw in a c10q in need of a recone. The jensen is pretty rusty though. Nothing seems rusted through...do you guys think its worth it to recone this old thing?

Absolutely!

Late '65 was a great year for Jensens.

Thanks for the info Arjay. You seem to be an expert in speakers (especially CTS from what I remember) so I thought I would run this speaker by you. It needs a recone, but looks like its in good shape. Agree? Can you tell the wattage and impedance from the speaker codes? Guy is selling it for 50$ Figured if I was already re-coning something I would try a couple of different vintage drivers.

The "064121" P/N indicates the speaker came from a Super Reverb and was made in the fourth week of 1967. If original, it'll have an 8-ohm coil rated for 25 watts. I typically have these re-coned to similar specs though I order the coil upgraded to 30 watts for safety's sake. Fifty bucks for a rebuildable core is reasonable.

Hey guys, Question: I'm used to my 5e3, which is cathode biased and doesn't necessarily need to be re-biased when you swap tubes out. My new 6g2 is fixed bias, does this mean I need to have my tech re-bias the amp if I throw new power tubes in it? Thanks.
