For those amps with several oddball combination of mfds. Like old Ampegs and Hiwatts, for instance.

That's pretty cool info and tutorial, Beemer. But I'm wondering about the mating of the sheet metal, after using a tube cutter. And the "glue", JB Cold Weld? For sure, that alternative isn't too far fetched. Considering the dremel, drilling, mounting clamp search effort it took to R&R the cap can with a CE in the '55 Valco. But of course, I wasn't striving for the vintage correct situation. Art

Nobody would bother doing that to good caps -- it's what you do when the electrolytics have dried out, leaked, drifted in value and there are no available exact replacements but you want to retain the cosmetic appeal of the original cap cans.

Nichicon manufactures outstanding caps -- some of the best in the world. Those little caps might not have the cosmetic appeal of a big gleaming cap can, but they vastly outperform the original cap cans in every way (even when the originals were fresh and healthy).

Nichicon are good cap for low budget amp , but for vintage tube amps and very good quality amp , Mallory Sprague Atom are a better buy.

But they won't fit in these metal can.

I won't be happy if I discover the amp I bought have some cheap caps hidden in metal can.

I don't believe you can't find many Nichicon or good Panasonic caps (which had good caps in their range, at one time) --- with the HV values needed for most Fender amps. I like 450+VDC rated caps for these subs.

I've redone a couple of Hiwatts amps using Mundorff caps. Seem to work ok,
