I can't imagine there would be a similar depth and organic feel you get with tubes.

Hmmmm, I don't know why this came to mind but, this would be kinda like replacing an all natural set of DD's with silicon implants......Oooops, did I go there....
I guess it's just a matter a preference, and my preference leans towards natural, if you know what I mean.

Another example of over-the-top advertising. Which may not be back by sound engineering or Physics.

BTW... there has been some ppl mislaed by ads for 5R4GY rectifiers being one-to-one replacements for 5AR4/GZ34 or 5U4GB. Sometimes advertised as the BEST of the type. This is far from the truth, as 5R4 type rectifiers are designed to handle no more than 5-10mfd in the first stage of the filter supply.

If placed into an amp with a 20-40mfd first stage (like most 5AR4 or 5U4GB), the tube will stand a good chance of early failure.

Even, some very well known suppliers have fallen into this hype valley.... :(

I suspect a listen test wouldn't reveal much. The true test is how they respond when playing.

Ditto all.

My post on the You Tube demo:

Not impressed. If you want to demonstrate what these things sound like, do it with a clean sound and not some cranked up, overdriven and distorted sound that any OD pedal can replicate.

Love to see one of those hot red RetroValves in that "handsfree" unit--- cranking away. Imagines of "The Monster from the Black Lagoon" come to mind.

My suggestion: load up a Twin Reverb and lose the pedals. Then let's listen to what they sound like. My money is on the "real" tubes.

I like 'em. I could hear the compressed sound of the three RetroValves as compared with three 12AX7s, and they sound good to me, different but still good.

These might be perfect for an amp like an X100B 1x12 combo, where the preamp tubes don't last very long.

SS preamp and tube output is a cool combination IMO. I will probably get some and try them. 8)
