Well it's been about a month since I bought the Bassman, and Bandmaster heads. I can't believe how hard it is to find a 2x12 4 Ohm cabinet. I was hoping to find a decent Fender cab, but so far no dice. And the few things I have found are way overpriced. Thinking I may just go ahead and build my own.

Arnold...hate to go to ebay on ya, but here is one that sounds like it is right up your alley.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-Vintage- ... 4d051c0dd5

There were quite a few on there for under $300 + shipping. Not too bad. I got my 66 Bassman cab for $400, with the original Jensen C12N's in it and in near mint condition...but I did find it locally. One thing I have learned is to be patient, but to strike when you find the item you are looking for.

Here is another, a project, but only $300 with free shipping. Would make a great Project...and I and others can help you with making a new baffle, etc.

Good luck.

T2

Arjay - that cabinet is a thing of beauty, both before and after the grillcloth and tolex are on. Great workmanship!

To the OP - eBay does have cabinets, but the shipping will usually sour the deal as it's a large cube (cubic feet) to ship, and that's what UPS prices on. You may better scouring Craigslist for local deals. I paid $150 for my Bandmaster cabinet (although I did have to drive an hour and a half each way).

+1

Watch for the Avatar Classic 212 cabs......they're sturdy and they're styled like the traditional Fender designs, with typical Fender cosmetics and hardware.

Thanks for the kind words, Nedo!

Been burned on the bay before, haven't been there in years. CL has been a bit dry lately, either have crap, or decent stuff and are wanting way more than I'd be willing to pay. Keeping an eye out. Fine builds Arjay...is that MDF???
Did you draw up your own designs, or use pre made plans? I think I may go for it, after my pedalboard/case went so well. May have to get back in touch with you about speakers. Saw the AV bandmaster head and cab new in GC, but seems it is 8 Ohm now.

The current Bandmaster VM cabinet shares little to nothing with its blackface or silverface brethren other than it's a cabinet. I'd avoid.

I got my Bandmaster combo cab shown in my signature from Newellamps.com; JD makes extension cabs as well and is a good guy to deal with.

The external dimensions are the same but that's it. A B'Master in name only.

No I wouldn't buy it, anyway it's 8 Ohm. Seems there are a lot more vintage heads out there than cabs. I guess they either don't survive as well, or people hold on to them. I found a 1968 cab in really nice shape minus speakers for a good price, but I'm just not up to driving 3 hours 1 way to get it.

It's the way Leo built them, it's the way I build them.

MDF baffle board has a lower resonance frequency than solid or plywood. This helps reduce mid-bass boominess. Something ppl at Altec and JBL figured out in the early 1960's, when MDF became available.

Are you sure ?
I could be wrong but this look more CBS 1970' style. IMO Leo don't use particle board on baffle.
