Vintage47 has started conducting Amp Building Workshops.

"This is a 12+ hour intense hands on learning experience!

Includes everything you’ll need to build a functional and fun to play Class A single ended all tube amplifier for guitar and/or harmonica.

Learn to read schematic drawings, construction layout and component placement, tone management and shaping techniques. Even if you have never soldered a wire before you will walk away from this class with a new amplifier assembled by your own hand and have a basic understanding of how your new tube amp works! Includes a very cool Valco Oahu Style retro pre finished cabinet with Alnico speaker. "

Cost is price of the amp, plus $100.

I need to plan a trip out west sometime and go to one of these. :D

I love my Oahu Suitcase amp. Lots of fun in a small package.

It sounds great..... mine as an 8" hemp coned Tone Tubby. Its darker than a Fender. Great for blues - early rock - jazz.

There are plenty of sound clips on youtube of these amps. They are all recreations of early Valco amps. My Oahu is based on a 1942 Valco circuit.

I posted the link to the workshop for anyone out west who might be interested.

Art, look kinda like 6SL7GT (mu ~ 70). This and the 6SN7GT (mu ~ 20) really give early amps, like those combo Ampegs their unique tone.

If you like the shimmer of these tubes... a little secret. The 6CG7 and 5687 come very close in tone. And are 9-pin minis. I've made several DIY OD stomp boxes around both tubes. Great, slow buttery smooth tone. Pinouts are all different. As is the bias and voltage swings. But, a little circuit trickery is sometimes worth the hassle.

Yeah, there are some great little bottles, that aren't labeled 12A(_)7. :D

Have a nice cool weekend with that Rik!
