I bought my '72 Twin with Master Vol about 35 years ago and one problem I haven't got a handle on is a sharp pop when I use the floor switch to turn on the tremelo. I've re-tubed and looked around inside, but haven't a clue as to why the pop happens (everytime). Is there a cap or a resistor I should be looking at? The tremelo works well, and quitely, otherwise.

I'd look at the bypass caps tied to each of V5's two cathodes first. IIRC it's a dual-sided electrolytic and should be properly discharged before any hands-on examination. As well, be gentle when probing any wires associated with this circuit lest you move one and inadvertently induce the nefarious "trem tick" into the amp.

You might want to consider cleaning the switch(if it's not the sealed type). Also a LED optoisolator is much quieter than the old neon type(sudden charge up).

Thanks, HTH, I'll look at those caps, before I start thinking about a new footswitch from ebay.

I've put some Cali-Lube in the switch, and checked for cold-joint sodlers where I could, but this problem didn't go away. I had heard to be sure the tremelo wires in the cable are not coax or shielded, as that somehow adds to the "nefarious click", but I don't have that problem, just this big, sharp pop when I press the switch.

I'll let you know how it comes out.
